Length of time on Remicade: 21 months.
Doseage: 5 mg/kg every 8 weeks (lowest dose for UC).
Months to get me in remission: 2-3 months.
My remicade use is viewed as a success, but it was not a constant improvement. I had issues throughout the first 7 months or so on Remi, though I was told I was in remission (viewed from flex-sig) after 2 months.
I am unfortunately a person that has side effects that I assume to be from Remicade. I did not notice anything at all side-effect wise from taking Remicade for the first half year I was on it. I wouldn't get tired from the infusions and I never hurt in any way. Then just a bit after the sixth month mark I began having pains in my body. They are body aches that hurt bad (like 6 out of 10) every morning. I also have occasional joint aches in my fingers, and especially in my elbows if I try to do anything repetitive like lift weights. I can no longer do bench presses because of how horrible these pains are. BUT, if I don't use my elbow that way then I don't have the joint aches! Besides these issues, I have a tonsil that is very swollen up on my left side, and can only attribute that to Remi as well, as it was not that way before starting Remicade. Sometimes it hurts a bit, but it's okay.
I've seen a total of about
7 doctors this year about
these pains, and after extensive testing we've pretty much determined that either they don't know why I hurt, or that it's from Remicade.
I take tylenol and tramadol (prescript
ion pain killer) every morning, and this allows me to feel close to normal, and happy. I am happy to stay on Remicade with these pains until we have many more good options available, as I have been able to live more in the last year and a half than I have in a very long time. I was even able to meet a wonderful woman during this time and now have plans to marry her. So... it's a good thing I think!
**My body is more sensitive than most peoples to medicines, so I would assume you probably wouldn't get these pains. Most people don't, and enjoy a completely normal life!
