I just had surgery 2 weeks ago in NYC at NYP Cornell, it was the 1st step of the 3 step j-pouch surgery. I did the whole UC-- flare/remission dance for over 8 years with 6mp, Remicade, Pred, Uceris, Humira, Simponi and twice on Cyclosporine... They even offered me Tysibri if I wanted to keep my colon; no thank you I was done. Had c.diff twice too.
My first surgery went great, better than I could have expected the only issue was that I was so sick that they couldn't finish the surgery Laproscopically so they had to cut me
open and I need 27 staples which I am getting taken out tomorrow. It was my doing that I was so sick, I chose to wait for this surgeon (same surgeon as Pluot used for her surgery) and took me almost 3 months to get scheduled and into surgery due to insurance issues, vacations and the surgeon's schedule.
I did not have any pain from the surgery and I was out of the hospital in 5 and 1/2 days. I had no complications from the surgery so far and most of my energy is back. I woke up the next day in the hospital and I felt better than i had felt in years since my colon was no longer poisoning me. I'm all ready back to work full time as of this week, I was actually late by an hour to work today because I stayed in bed watching TV, drinking Coffee this morning and enjoying myself since I didn't have to keep running to bathroom.
Yes, I'd like not to have an Ostomy bag right now but it's not that big of a deal, I empty it twice a day and it really doesn't get in my way. Plus for me the Ostomy should only be temporary. I have my freedom again and can go where ever I want because I don't have a bad/poisonish colon anymore.
