New problem of gastritis/upset stomach

Hi.  Was just wondering if anyone developed a problem with upset stomach after being on Lialda (or any similar med) for a few months?  I didn't have trouble initially, but now am.  My GI says it shouldn't cause this, but I tend to be sensitive to any medications.  Or whether anyone also developed stomach problems after being diagnosed with UC?  I've noticed that some people on their "bios" here state that also have gastritis.  Just wondering how common this is.  My GI now wants to scope my stomach, but I'd like to take a little time to see what happens.  Has anyone been scoped for this problem, and what, if anything, did they find?  Thank you.

I have suspected Gastritis...I say suspected b/c I have the symptoms but dr. did not think necessary to scope at this point. I did get tested for H-pylori but was negative for that.(I got the blood test).  I take Lialda but have been taking it for years, so for me, I don't think it was that.

I started w/ Nexium (after a few weeks had bad stomach pains), than tried Zantac (again, after a few weeks had diarrhea and cramps)  Finally was put on Carafate (a coating agent which seems to be helping).  I also take dgl which is otc. 

Let us know how you make out w/ the scope.

I had an endoscopy at the same time as my last colonoscopy. I do have gastritis. I believe I had it before UC but it was managed with at first Prilosec and then we moved up to prescription Protonix which worked for years but this year I had to change to Aciphex and double the dose. I have NERD instead of GERD which just means that I don't have acid backing up into my esophagus. The symptoms still are mostly the same. I do get chest pain with it and extreme nausea.

Thanks so much for replying.   My doctor gave me samples of a new prescription, it's called Dexilant, which is the newest PPI, I guess.  I hope the Aciphex keeps working for you, but keep it in mind.  I'm a little afraid to try it since it is new and the warnings state it can cause anaphylactic reactions.  Did your scope show what was causing the gastritis?.  Did it just start out of the blue for you when it did?  Was wondering if they tested you for H. pylori infection?  I read where the symptoms will not improve if that is not taken care of.   I do not get heartburn either - it is just a very intense constant burning and upset in the stomach, more so than nausea.  Makes you wonder if the two conditions are related to GI inflammation, doesn't it?  May I ask how long it took the medication to first start helping?  I'm at about my wits end with this and have only had it a week.  I think I'd rather have the UC, believe it or not.  Do you also get a lot of constant belching and a feeling of a lump in the throat?  Just curious.  Thanks again.
