G'day mate,

I noted you are from NZed Land, and I was wondering if you have tried active manuka honey for your UC symptoms. Active Manuka Honey is native to New Zealand, and is known for relief from all types of ulcers as well as other medical ailments. When I was down unda last year I heard of this honey and purchased it and found relief from UC symptoms, most notably, the worst one, bleeding.

I live in USA it is expensive to order authentic active manuka honey but well worth it. And I do order it. Not as frequently as I can but I do. There are some USA companies who offer the real deal, but since I am ordering it online, I might as well get it from the source.

Since you are from the area I was wondering if you have tried it. I strongly suggest you do. I am sure beekeepers and people from NZ know way more about it than I do.

All I know is that, since the honey is "active", they measure the activity in different numbers. The honey can be used for topical with activities of 10-15 and internally (digestive care) from 16-20. Anything above 20 is considered a waste of money. I only use 20, but USA does make a somewhat authentic MHoney, that is indeed from NZ, I tried the 16, it worked OK. If you get anything below 16, it will not help your UC.

Well I do actually have some active manuka honey. I'm not taking it at the moment but I might just start trying it again. I know it's good good for issues in the stomach tho and it's considered viable for H.pylori. Manuka honey is also good for healing wounds and for oral hygiene. I just figured it would have a hard time making its way all the way to the colon and still be beneficial. I had thought about manuka honey enemas but never tried it.

You really got relief from the honey eh? That's great I think I'll add it in to my diet again. What did you have it with, how much and how often?

It's not cheap but it's not outrageous - especially if it works.

Where did you visit when you were here?
And how's the SCD going for you?

Hi there I'm also from NZ and a big believer in manuka honey ...you only need 5+ for it to be beneficial ....its great stuff ....expensive but you don't need alot.....How much does it cost for you to have it sent over to you from here?...I'm happy to help if I can.

Yes, I use the active manuka 20+ and find relief. When I have it, I take it atleast once a day on a slice of SCD bread on an empty stomach about 30 minutes before breakfast. I'll use the same protocol before dinner too, or even bed.

You've noticed UC relief with just 5+? Amazing. Its about 40$ for a 250g bottle of 20+ and about 55$ for 500g bottle. Thank you for looking out for me cfg!

Today I have bought 'Pure Gold Active 6+ Manuka Honey from NZ' to start with. But can anyone of you tell me what is 6+ , 12+ etc .. written on the pack? How do they differ?

DMC, It is Manuka Honey and it claims to have Antibacterial activities and it says total phenol activity of non peroxide and peroxide functions.
Where as Normal honey has phenolic acid with peroxide - found this by doing a quick google.

I keep some on hand but it never affected my UC at all. One of those things you read about, try, doesn't work but you liked enough to use it ever so ofter. Good to keep on hand for burns and deep cuts.

Ok, today the blood has increased. Can't say its because of the Manuka Honey, but I'll see for another two or three days.

sarav, if you actually read my topic post, you would know that 6+ is not strong enough to treat UC.

try 16-20+ for UC

mindoverbutter, thank you very much for your advice. Actually I read your post after I bought confused
So I thought let me complete it as I can't throw away because it tastes good. I'm also thinking to stock this for later use and now buy a new one which is 18+ and use it.

Today was the 5th of Prednisolone dosage 40mg, still bleeding. Hope it subsides.
