Suprep- talk to me, people!!!!

OK, so I've got Suprep for an upcoming scope, have never used it before. Experiences, please?????  I've got to be at the hospital at 7:30am- so I plan to do the first dose around 11:00am the day before, the 2nd dose around 4:00pm, & hopefully be in bed sleeping by 10:00. Workable???? Also do super light/liquid diet for 3 days prior.

the instructions did say to do the second dose in the AM.... but... I can't deal with getting up that early, plus I drive about half-hour to my hospital. Accidents, anyone????? I figure as long as I'm emptied out, & not putting anything in.......!!!! Ugh, am already dreading it & it's 6 weeks away. I'm a barfer too, with scope preps. Can never seem to finish it all without throwing it up!

I used it for my last scope. Did the first dose at 6:00pm like it said to and was done going long before bedtime. Got up at 3:00 and did the second dose. My scope was at 8:00 I think. I know I did it one hour earlier then it said to just in case. I think I only drank half of it. I was going clear the night before anyway. But I will say even though I only drank half I still ended up going some and then it wasn't clear so even though you may go clear the night before you may not at first the next morning. And as a side note, it didn't give me horrendous cramping or anything either.

I've used it twice and both times, I have done both doses the day before.  First dose at 4:00 pm and the 2nd at 7:00 pm.   Both times I've only managed to get down 1/2 - 3/4 of the 2nd dose.   I just couldn't bring myself to finish it.  I have had no complaints from my Doc about not being totally cleaned out even though I didn't finish.  You know when you are clear.  I don't think I'd be comfortable taking the 2nd dose the day of my colonoscopy unless I was scheduled to have it done in the afternoon.  I'm too hungry to go without food that long so I like to try to be the first one of the day.  It's horrible, but you'll do fine. 

Oh, besides tasting horrible, the prep was fine.  I didn't throw up, no cramping, and no prolonged bathroom time.   4 or 5 trips to the bathroom after each dose, then I was done.   I was able to sleep all nite without having to get up multiple times.

I think your suggested timeline sounds good. I don't think I started mine until the afternoon before my procedure (I had an afternoon procedure the next day), and it cleaned me out well. I actually would have preferred the gallon preps thought because suprep was a $60 copay with my insurance, and I actually preferred the taste of the other prep better (I mixed it in with chicken broth to hide the saltiness) but the suprep had a kind of sweet taste if I remember correctly. I only got through about 2/3 of it but I was all cleaned out.

now I'm freaking out, after reading all these reviews of people winding up in the ER from Suprep, with low blood pressure, screwy heart rates, electrolyte imbalances, dehydration..... Jeez, when you read reviews of the preps, seems like they really can be dangerous. Has anyone here ever had an experience like that? with a prep I don't recall reading anything like it over the years, but still. I'm a giant baby, apparently. Do any GI's use the Osmoprep anymore? How can I make it easier on myself, eating super light that week???

The surprep tastes awful but I would suggest mixing it with ginger ale or sprite & honey… it will still taste bad but it certainly helps! Surprep is not as bad as the other prep I've had to do previously, which started with drinking an entire bottle of magnesium citrate and then an enormous jug of laxative solution. I would suggest drinking plenty of clear liquids! The actual procedure itself isn't bad at all.

I still mixed mine with water but would chug some of it and then take a couple gulps of ginger ale. Kept the aftertaste at bay thats for sure. Good luck!!

After reading all of these comments, I had a different experience than most. The suprep tasted like some kind of berry kool-aid. It was very easy to drink, although a little bloating occurred. I thought it was going to taste awful, according to most people. I was literally shaking so much that I could barely hold the cup with the suprep. After the first taste, I knew that I didn't need to use a straw or a chaser. I finished the first dose of suprep in under 2 minutes, followed by another 32 ounces of water which took another 10 minutes. I was on the toilet within 5 minutes. For me, the diarrhea lasted about 1 and a half hours. I was on a liquid diet on my prep day only. My second dose went as well as the first. I spent another hour and a half or so on the toilet. I woke up once 3 hours later for a bowel movement, nothing serious. The next morning was colonoscopy time. I have to admit I was scared to death about that. It was all for nothing. It went by so quickly and pain-free, I was so happy to know it was over. You have a bunch of gas after the procedure, so if you're a first timer like I was, please don't be afraid. I'm a wuss when it comes to anything involving shots or IVs. They gave me a numbing agent before the IV. I didn't feel a thing. No polyps or colitis was found, although they took a biopsy to make sure everything was normal. I'm a 41 year old male, but have a lot of stress in my life. I'm living with a lot less stress since the procedure. My advice: Get checked if you feel something is wrong. There is literally nothing to be afraid of. I hope this helps anyone else that needs this procedure done. Better safe than sorry.

The last prep I did was Suprep & was by far the best of them all and I have done quite the variety (fleet, half lytely, magnesium citrate). I have horrible gag reflux with the preps and have a VERY hard time holding them down. The suprep was much easier. I did split the dose the way it said. I did the first one the afternoon the day before. I didn't mind the taste at all and got it all down no problem. I had no cramping and wasn't even going to the bathroom for too long...about 2 hours and all was actually going clear. I got up around 5 am to do the second dose, which I only got about half down, but it didn't matter because I was going clear anyway. It didn't taste any worse, but my stomach just couldn't deal with any more prep at that point. I had concerns too about doing a split dose, since this was my first one, about having to go to the bathroom on the ride to the procedure (my GI is about 45 min drive). So I made my procedure later in the morning (around 11 am). This way it gave me enough time. Be very vigilant about staying hydrated. You hardly drink any prep with suprep and it is very important to get electrolytes. I drank the amount they said and stayed hydrated, yet when I woke up from the colonoscopy my blood pressure was low and they had to give me more IV saline due to dehydration.

My experience with Suprep sounds about the same as yours.. Threw up both doses, but enough must have got into my system to clean me out. Was going clear after the second dose, and Dr. didn't have any trouble with the colonoscopy.

I got the 1st dose the evening before down but it was rough drinking all of that water because I already drink a lot of water. I fasted on mostly water and jello for 2 days prior. I thought that I was going to burst. It ran through for about 4 hours and I was able to get some sleep before doing it all over again in the morning. Surgery isn’t til 12:30 pm.

The second dose was harder to drink and to drink all of that water was harder still. But I did it! It stayed down for about 1 hr. before I vomited it up. A lot, it hurt and I am not prone to vomiting. Some of the Supprep stayed down because it was still coming out the other end too. I will grab gaterade from the store to avoid dehydration.
