Getting ready for day 1 of Remicade. A little nervous. I have been taking 125mg of 6mp. Doctor told me to drop down to 50mg today. Not sure how my body is going to handle all of this. The hospital wants me there for 5 hours today. 2 hours of observation after the infusion this first time.

Wish me luck. I'm praying this will be the drug to put me in remission for the first time in years. I'm so tired of all the blood/diarrhea/fatigue. The 6mp helped some but started raising my liver levels pretty fast.

Good luck Greg! I had my 1st remi dose on Sept 10th of this year. I felt progressively better after each of the three initial loading doses. I'm now feeling the best I have in years; and I hope remi works the same for you.

Good luck Greg.. It took me 3 infusions to finally feel and see the effect.. I have done 6 now and feel so much better.

Good luck! I had great luck with Remicade and 6MP (although I did need hydrocortisone enemas to get me into remission, just not to maintain it).

6MP isn't like prednisone or similar medications that work immediately. You're essentially building up the levels of 6MP in your body for your body to use. That's why it takes so long work--you're still building up stores of it. So dropping the levels likely will not have an immediate effect.

It sounds like your doctor is dropping your dosage because the 6MP is now going to be to boost the effectiveness of Remicade, instead of just being a stand-alone medication.

Hope it goes well, I noticed a difference by the next day. Have had 3 infusions so far and no side effects from it.

I just had my first remi today. Still not sure what To expect from it. Just a little tired.

Thanks everyone,

Wow, a long day. Almost 6 hours. My observation ended up being 2/12 hours. It seemed like half the people in there were coughing and sneezing without covering their mouths. I'm sitting there thinking "great," here I'm getting a medicine to suppress my immune system and will probably leave here with someones cold. I wish people would cover their mouths. I know I do.

All the infusion centers I have seen offer rooms away from everyone if you want privacy.
It usually takes almost three hours.

The only way to get a cold is to touch your eyes, nose or mouth with your fingers that have a germ on them. I always make sure I have hand sanitizer on me when I go in for my infusions.

But I hope Remi gets you into remission. It has worked extremely well for me and I've been remission for 1 1/2 years now when everything else has failed.

Yep, even though I'm off the Remi, I'm like Sherry....wash, wash, wash, and don't put your hands in your eyes, ears, or mouth. Also make sure you get the flu shot. I've done fairly well with this practice even with a lot of work travel, but I guess it's always a roll of the dice! Good luck, and hope the Remi works as well for you as it did for me.

Hi Sherry, yOu're in remission correct :) Do you have any urgency, bloody or diarreah? Also are you bm's totally normal formed? What were they like prior to Remicade please? I'm really trying to see if remicade is for me.

My first infusion was yesterday too.  I didn't get any observations though.  I was out of there about 2.5 hours from the time I walked into the door.  They gave me some claritin and a couple of tynelol and hooked me up to the IV.  I had a cold going into it, they said as long as I wasn't on antibiotics I'd be fine.  They did tell me to call the nurse though if the cold led to a fever.  I was exhausted after my infusion and slept about 4 hours once I got home.  I'm not tired today though, hope it works for all of us!

Dude35 lets us know how you're doing please in the next few weeks! I will help me decide if I'm going down that road.

Linda, before Remicade I was going to the bathroom 3-5 times with D, sometimes blood, cramping and urgency. Now that I am in remission, I go 1-3 times, I still have D to a certain extent because of my IBS and Diverticular disease, but no blood, no cramping and no urgency.

Good luck. I hope we both find relief with remicade. Let us know if you find relief and I will do the same.
