Apriso

My daughter took apriso today for the first time and is having bad abdominal cramps and diarrhea. She has been to the RR more than she can count. Will it get better taking it again tomorrow? I'm
scared for her to continue to take it since she has a history of pancreatitis with Asacol.

Any advice would be appreciated!!

Yesterday she had a colonoscopy and she was going a lot but no abdominal cramps. Today she took the apriso in the AM went a few times before her first class, had lunch and she said it has come with a vengeance. I'm trying not to panic. I just don't want her pain to get worse.. I wish there was something I could do. She's a freshman in college.

She said after lunch she was good for about an hour after she ate. At lunch she had a cheeseburger on white bread and peaches (canned) and water. Burger had mayo and ketchup.

Ok, thank you I will call her Dr tomorrow.

If it is food related the cheese and peaches could have done her in. Both of these in particular are often not good with UC'rs.

It's a real shame that fruits get me because I used to be an avid fruit lover of all kinds. Fresh ripe peaches in particular are to die for. Unfortunately, that is close to the truth for me anymore. Not too long ago I ate some apple pie and paid the price. Shortly afterward I had a peach pie and paid the price. I threw the rest of the pie away because it just isn't worth it. Fortunately my body recovers shortly afterward with no permanent ill effects but those first few hours are not good.

I had to bring her to ER. The doc said her white blood count cell is high. They're doing a CT scan of her abdomen. She's hooked up with IVs and feel in better for now. Her white bold count cell is 22 which he said was very high.

The first drug I was prescribed after I was diagnosed with UC based on a colonoscopy was Apriso. Starting immediately after taking Apriso, I had severe, urgent diarhea and stomach cramps for the next six weeks and anything such as a salad that I ate came out undigested. Diarhea was not one of my pre colonoscopy symptoms. The doctor kept telling me to give the Apriso time to work and would not accept that it was what was causing the problem.

If you read the Apriso literature, there is something called an Apriso allergy or something like that. I quit Apriso and the d stopped. The next doctor I consulted also wanted to try Apriso, which I did, with the same result. I quit it after a week and we tried other medications.

While Apriso and the related generics work for some, for me it was poison.

Six months after my initial diagnosis, I ended up in ER with Gallstones and eventually had to have gallbladder out. Do not know if there is any relationship.

Thank you all for the replies. She has a c diff infection. She isn't taking the Apriso either. All she is on at the moment is vancomycin, 6mp, folic acid, and her b/c. I pray this antibiotic kills it all and it never comes back. She's been through so much lately. I still can't believe she has c diff :((
