12th day on 40mg Pred, still bleeding

Today is my 12th day since I'm on 40mg Pred, I'm still bleeding. I'm worried because I'm left with just two more days to taper off. If 40mg is not stopping the blood I wonder the lower doses would.
Anybody any advice?

Sorry if 49mgs isn't working then you need more of it. I've seen up to 60mgs of oral pred prescribed before. If not allowed by your GI, then it is IV steroids.

iPoop, are you saying the 40mg should have stopped the blood by the 12th day or so?

I'm saying by a few weeks in, you should start to see some sort of improvement. You might want to call your GI and ask him/her whether something more needs to be done (higher dosage, wait longer, etc.). Everyone responds differently and at different rates. I tend to respond very slowly to uc meds, pred included.

I was on 40 mg of prednisone for over 2 years and never saw the bleeding stop. If you're concerned by the lack of improvement, call your GI.

You folks are right, I'll have to call my GI. I have a planned appointment on 28th Nov.

Definitely call your GI. I was on 40mg pred for 12 days or so, called and got bumped up to 60. None of it ever did anything for me. I was one of the unlucky ones who was steroid refractory....well, really all drug refractory. But, for many people, bumping up the dosage will do the trick, so certainly worth a call. Good luck!

For me I still bleed after tapering steroids. I do notice improvement in frequency and consistency of the stool while I am still taking them, but after starting treatment it has taken me 4-6 months to stop bleeding completely and I do see improvement throughout that period as the blood gradually becomes less and less through the weeks.

I've asked my GI about it and he says the colon can take a very long time to heal completely.

Is Uceris available to you? I took 60 mg and didn't stop bleeding. Uceris got rid of it.

Have you gotten any better at all on prednisone? If not it doesn't look like it is going to do anything for you.

Do you take it all in the morning, do better by day and then bleed overnight? Some, like me, had to split the pred up into 2 or more evenly spaced doses to keep things from flaring up towards the end of its peak. Granted, taking it later in the day causes imsomnia, but I still slept better than if I was hurting more at and bleeding night. I was keot having bloody D until after 3 weeks of IV steroids, which are more potent even than oral pred. Hope things turn for you soon.

I still see blood in the stool but not like diarrhea. Today I saw my my GI and he said the frequency matters not the blood. He said it might take a little longer to heal, so he said I shouldn't worry.
And he is happy to lower down the Pred dose. So from today I'll be on 30mg Pred for two weeks.

And I have asked for Entocort enema as well to treat from both ends. He was happy to give me.

Hope the entocort helps me while the Pred tappering.

Probiotic, I take the Pred all in the morning. Because my GI said Pred in the night causes disturbed sleep.

garylouisville, I think I'm seeing little improvement but now on to 30mg. I'll have to watch.

Andrina, I had asked for Uceris. Its called as Cortiment in The Netherlands. But my GI said I'm the first he will trying this drug!!! I was a bit scared because I've planned my vacation this Saturday. So I don't want to risk myself in trying something new. May be for the next flare :)

And I think food wise, I have been making mistakes - took brown rice(biggest mistake); bought some biological sesame toast - another mistake I guess(not sure) because it contained yeast.

I think I will go on with white rice and cooked bananas, cooked apples. This should help me well.
