Succes stories with SCD, Fodmap, Paleo

Hej

I would like to hear some of the succes stories to boost my motivation - especially SCD

I know that it does not work for everybody, there are plenty of statements on this in here.

But maybe the people it worked for is not here in this forum ?

I just read the SCD book and wanna try it.

Have you or have you knowledge of people having succes with this?

according to the book there is a likelihood that a years strict diet could give long term remission.....

Under all circumstances it can only be better than eating all kind of indstrialised crap and sugar

 

i've been on SCD for 17 months but just started eating resistant starches almost 2 weeks ago. so technically, i'm not following it anymore haha

but it has helped my nutritional numbers and made me gain a lot of weight. it has done nothing for my ulcerative colitis though. i just had a surgery consult today with an awesome colorectal surgeon and i feel much more confident about surgery now.

I've reduced functional symptoms (gas & bloating) by reducing FODMAPs.

Qvist I've been on SCD since July and it's helped me along with Fecal Transplant.
It's a great diet and is so healthy. It really helps you realize all the crap that's in "food" sold in stores today. No wonder so many people are sick with various health ailments. SCD is a whole foods diet that doesn't cost a lot to do. We eat mostly organic so that costs a little more, but the money saved by cutting out the other garbage we used to buy makes up the difference. Also not having to buy meds. - that has been the real money saver. I'm living my life again thanks to this diet and FT.
You just need to plan ahead when you eat out. I went to lunch the other day with friends and was fine ordering a smoked trout salad, but then when the desert menus came, I ordered a fruit plate to keep me from feeling too sorry for myself - haha, it was good too - although probably not as good as the chocolate moose they were eating!

I followed a Paleo diet for about 3 months, I think. The first couple of weeks, I started feeling a little bit better, but after that I kept declining and eventually was feeling worse than before I started. So I stopped.

I think a huge part of my problem was that through this I discovered I cannot tolerate almonds. I didn't know this going into it so I ate tons of almond flour, almond milk, lara bars, etc. Almonds are in so many Paleo dishes. It tore me up.

ya, moderation and diversity are my main bros these days -

give your gut a chance to heal, then slowly start to eat almond stuff again - and don't eat tons ;-)

you might need months of avoidance before you even attempt to eat that stuff again - that's kinda how this stuff works - you gotta let your body do the deciding -

or like isf said, just move on w/o almonds - I do just fine not eating them - or any nuts for that matter -

but get back on that paleo pony and give it another shot !

You can do Paleo without almonds, almond flour, etc..,,

Oh, I did cut out all almond products first. I still didn't really see any improvements. I switched from paleo to an elimination diet so I could pin point which foods were actually issues for me. So even though I don't eat paleo, I do still carefully watch what I eat.

Fodmaps is an awesome diet that gives you definitive answers to what foods you are sensitive to. I was tired of journaling and trying to guess. It is your best bet to give your gut time to heal. I can't imagine where I would be if I were still eating all the stuff esp fruit and honey that kept me miserable.

It's worth the time investment.

Oh and now that my colon is feeling better I can sneak in a piece of fruit once in a while! Apple pie!

Are you on any probiotics, if so which ones?
WHat are your vitamin d3 levels at?

I don't know what my d3 levels are, but I am taking 1/2 packet of vsl#3ds daily for a probiotic.
