Regarding fistulas; my choices are to live with a fistula or risk getting Remicade induced lupus?  Great options....NOT!

My niece had that Remi induced lupus....not fun. Having said that, I think it's pretty rare.

Drug induced Lupus goes away when you stop taking the drug that caused it. But yes, Remicade does have some serious side effects. I don't know what the options are when it comes to fistulas, but in life there are always more than 2 options...

Pb4, this doesn't sound like you. Perhaps I missed part of the thread. Surely you know there are more options than Lupus with Remi. It has dangers, and I know most of them, but the relief is also a consideration.

Because of this recto-vag fistula my GI said Remi is the drug to heal fistulas...

Lacaille, thanks for clarifying that if you get lupus it goes away when it's remi induced, that I did not know.

katmom, not exactly sure I'm getting what you mean about this doesn't sound like me, but the first thing that comes to mind is, I've changed a lot over the last while, that I can recognize, what I don't recognize is who I am anymore.

well, you could opt to consult with a surgeon to inquire about surgical repair, & not try any of the meds. I honestly don't get how they are supposed to heal these things- I believe they are supposed to reduce symptoms, thereby letting the fistula heal. But, once it's established, they seem really difficult to close up on their own! The med itself doesn't seem to do anything to promote healing. After using Remicade & Humira, neither have done anything for my RV fistula. And others on here have had to resort to surgical repair as well. You do have options!

Thanks Eva,

They did say I would likely be sent to a surgeon once they saw where this fistula track is, to make sure it's a recto-vaginal one and likely to ensure there is only one. Time will tell I guess.
