Hi, I haven't been on HW for a very long time. I have been dealing with symptoms for about 2 months. The usual diarrhea, cramping, pains. I was diagnosed with UC in the late 90's. I know I had it in my teens because I was bleeding but being a kid and not wanting to say anything to my mom it wasn't until the late 90's I have my first colonoscopy. I have a family history of colon cancer and other bowel diseases. My mom had diverticulitis and they found polyps when she had her first colonoscopy.

I have an appointment with the NP at my gastro docs office on Monday. I wanted to know if the other symptoms I have been having are due to an ulcer or if it could be my UC. I've never had these symptoms with my UC.

I can't eat anything without it giving me sever cramping and stomach pain. Shortly after I eat anything I feel really nauseas, have stomach pain and usually end up gagging and throwing up due to the nausea. It eventually works its way to stomach pain and cramping, then to just cramping and eventually diarrhea. Does anyone else have stomach pain and nausea after they eat something? Could this be an ulcer or is it my UC? I have a very mild case of UC. I haven't been this bad for a very long time, so to me the pain is worse than it is to my fiancé who has a very bad case of UC. I have not been on medication for years. The last one I was on was lialda. In the pat I have also been on Rowasa, and a brownish pill with yellow powder in it. That was the first medication I was ever on so I don't remember the name of it. I just want to be able to eat a regular meal or anything for that matter without it making me feel like I'm dying. I am not throwing up blood. Any comments will be very helpful. Monday won't be here fast enough. I am at the end of my rope at the moment. shakehead   Please help. Thank you in advance.

I think it's good that you're going in to see your GI, or at least the NP there. It sounds like you are probably flaring. Some people get upper GI distress from inflammation in the rectum. Weird, I know. When was your last scope?

My last scope was almost 2 years ago. I have to have them every 2 years due to my family history. It came back as not having a flare then. Everything was good.

Sounds like a flare. I also have mild/moderate colitis but nausea and vomiting (along with bathroom issues) means I need to be treated ASAP.

I've had only two bad flares. The first one, I ignored the vomiting for several weeks and ended up in the hospital for 7 days. I was really sick for two months and on Prednisone for 7 months

The second bad flare, which I'm at the tail end of now, I saw my GI when nausea became a problem. The meds and supplements have gotten me to 90% normal in about a month.

Don't wait! The longer you let a flare go untreated, the worse it will be and the longer it'll take to recover.

That is what my fiancé is worried about, that I am going to be hat's the last thing I need. And that is another fear that they are going to put me on Prednisone. I don't want to go on it. I have seen the damage it can do to a person. As long as it's a low dose and not for a long period of time. But I think at this point I will take anything that will help.

Are you currently on any meds? I agree that you need to see your GI doc.

I am currently not on meds. Monday can't come fast enough. Its really awful when you can't eat anything with out having pain cramping and bathroom issues. On top of physically not well I am under allot of stress. And I know that is not helping my UC. Its a big bad circle. I know you all know what it's like and that is very comforting. I thank all of you for your thoughts, advice and well wishes. It's always comforting to hear from other people who know what you are going through. I will post an update on Monday after I see the NP.

OK, update on my gastrointestinal problems. Saw the NP. She doesn't know what is causing my issues, so I have to have an abdomen ultrasound, blood work of course, a colonoscopy was scheduled for next month and a stool sample. She gave me Prilosec, and is giving me a pill for the cramping. She doesn't want to put me on meds that will help me until they know what is causing my issues. So ultrasound is 27th. Colonoscopy Jan 22nd. She is also going to test me for Celiac disease.
