Apparently at least around Nebraska the pharmacies are keeping hardly any Lortab elixir pain medicine on hand due to dosage changes coming about
January 1st. Somehow I got my first bottle of 10-300mg/15ml after surgery, but since then Walgreens has been having horrible service. They said they would refill it by today when I called yesterday. I stopped in, and they said "oh... no, we're not getting that in today". How nice. It's not like I'm running out of pain medicine after having parts of my throat/mouth scraped out and cauterized. Wait... yes it is! lol
I've come to find out that this dosage is most of the problem. They still have 7.5 versions available at least some places. So... I called the doctor's office and spoke with a nurse at 11 this morning who said she would check into this and get back with me. Fast forward three and a half hours and I call them back. "Oh, that nurse has left for the day. She left a note for the doctor though". Okay I say, but that doctor is out today, right? Yes. Okay... would you not agree that I need my pain medicine today?? "Yes".
Lol... so now they have a call in to another nurse who hopefully will help me settle this within the next couple hours, or I'm going to be roughing it this weekend with tylenol and tramadol, like usual.
I was definitely not impressed with Walgreens lack of care as to if I was even serviced at all in my time of need. I am going to try a new pharmacy out if I can get a hold of someone to call the prescript
ion in.

Can't you just ask for a script
for good old Tylenol w/codeine? Or Oxys? Percocets? I've never heard of this liquid pain killer they gave you... granted, swallowing pills is no fun in your current state, but it's better than being in pain. I remember crushing my pain pills up in sherbet after my tonsillectomy.

Eva,
Lortab is liquid vicodin. Its the same thing I was prescribed after my tonsillectomy.

I've audited the pharmacy department of a large hospital before. I can say that most of the staff aren't very enthusiastic in helping patients unless a doctor intervenes. Not saying that pharmacists are bad people, this is just my observation whilst I was there.
To be fair, they have to put up with some horribly written script

Getting some pain meds was a cluster you-know-what. I'm not at all satisfied with walgreens and their blatant disregard for if I would have pain medications or not. The fact that they told me a day ahead of time my order would be in, and when I stop in the next day they tell me "Oh, no, that won't be coming in today". How nice of them not to tell me so I have to start looking for a solution mid-day on Friday. Haha
So, I called the surgeon's office and spoke to one of her nurses. The nurse said she would straighten it out for me and call me back. Three and a half hours later I called again, and that nurse had gone home!!! She had left a note for the doctor, but the doctor wouldn't be back in that day!
Eventually I found a nurse who helped me, who called the doctor, and who got a prescript
ion for something that WAS available. I had them call it in to a new pharmacy (not walgreens!), and my fiancee picked it up.
So, after way too much hassle for a sick guy I did get this taken care of!

" "Oh, no, that won't be coming in today". "

just the kind of cluster cluck you needed, eh t man ? not fun when you're on top of your game, let alone when you're feeling like crap !
glad you're back to some pain free healing -

What did you end up getting?
But don't you just hate the hoops you have to jump thru to get what you need????? I've had something similar happen and I was fuming!

Oh, but it is pain medicine. You know we're all abusing it, or selling it on Craigslist.

I made the mistake a number of years ago of taking all my prescript
ions to Walgreens, thinking their service sounded great. I had nothing but trouble. The automatic refills never happened, I was always being told the medicine would be in with their order (which they received twice a week) than it didn't show up, etc. After a few months I moved them all back to my local grocery pharmacy where they got deliveries daily and stocked balsalazide even though I was one of only two people they had on that med.
I'd never use Walgreens again.

Walgreens is particularly bad. I have 4 Walgreens in my neighborhood and have used 2, never follow their word. CVS is darn good comparatively, if they tell you, they get it, at least in my neighborhood. But I don't blame pharmacists, they are not completely responsible for everything.
And I have learned my lesson when walgreens gave me run for hydrocortisone enema in the middle of flare, I have started stocking it up, so even if all pharmacies go on strike tomorrow, I have stock for 5 months almost.
Good Luck man.

I love my local CVS. For the most part they don't screw up anything and they even automatically call my doctor when I need refills of stuff. I get calls from a nurse at my GI's office saying they ok'd the refills that I didn't even know was requested! LOL
I also had a problem at one time with a script
being called into the wrong CVS and we couldn't figure out why they didn't have it. The tech spent awhile tracking it down for me and having it transferred to them.

Cvs is awesome! :) I've never been to Walgreens but I've heard many stories about
them. It seems Cvs is more on the ball.

Hey all! I ended up getting a generic form of Lortab, with a little less strength to it. For who knows what reason I was taking the 10-300/15ml lortab/tylenol mix. Now I have a 7.5-325/15ml dose. That first one was impossible to refill it would appear.
My mom is an RN at a nursing home, and they tried walgreens pharmacy. After seeing how little walgreens cared as to if a patient actually had the meds they needed on time, the nursing home switched elsewhere.
To be fair, I think this situation is more the medicine itself and the new rules/dosing coming out. BUT, I live a ways away from the pharmacy. For me to stop in and them to tell me they lied and it wouldn't actually be coming in today. Ya, that was unfortunate and definitely could have been avoided.
Ohwell. I'm okay for the moment, though I have a fever running between 99.7 and 100.4 right now. Trying to get that down. And, I just got the call that my neighbor in hospice passed away. Going to start another thread on that here in a minute.
