I've had hair loss for over 10 years now, but in the past 6 months it's been the worst. I was on Prednisone for a year and got off about
2 1/2 months ago. I believe that is what really caused my hair loss this time. My scalp also burns everyday now and my hair looks so thin it's pretty noticeable. It can be pretty depressing when single and not even 40 yet. I even had 3 inches cut off my long hair, and it looked good for about
2 weeks, but then my scalp started burning and clumps of hair started coming out again so now its back to looking horrible.
I've seen a dermatologist for many, many years and had scalp biopsies that just confirm my hair is thinning. I've used Nioxin but it doesn't really help grow hair, just helps keep the scalp healthy. I have a prescrition shampoo, Ketoconazole that helps calm irritation in the scalp down too. I also have a steroid serum I put on my scalp, Clobetasol which helps with redness and irritation. But if the hair loss is due to stress, medication withdrawal or illness nothing will stop it until your body gets back on it's normal track. I also use a Lasercomb which actually has helped grow quite a bit of hair back, but I've only been using it since June and in the past month my hair really started coming out in clumps. So at this point the comb isn't make my hair look any better due to that.
I do take Biotin, Folic Acid, L-Lysine and drink protein shakes - all of which are supposed to help hair and nails. I also use Aveda Pure Abundance shampoo which thickens the look of your hair. I plan to try the Aveda Invati line as I have a few samples, just to see how that feels.
