SUCCESS!!

I've been struggling through a Proctitis flare since early October. Had been on Delzicol for some time, did Mesalamine enemas starting in October, changed to Hydrocortisone enemas in mid December only to see conditions worsen. Right after the new year I was seeing more blood, more urgency, stools turned to diharreah, etc.....

1 week ago changed my MEDS to Asocol HD 800 mg 3x and started Canasa suppositories. Worked up this morning and had my first BM which was actually NORMAL! I swear, I went from flare to normal in 48 hours. I am so blown away....

I have left-sided Proctitis and I am convinced the enemas were going too high to have an impact. The suppositories seemed to be a charm!

Wanted to share this for anyone who needs some encouragement. I am so thankful I didn't go on pred.....had 2 3 years ago and my GI never event suggested suppositories!

I am Lialda and Canasa also. Last year in January I had my scope which showed I improved but still had 2 cm of inflammation in the rectum. My doctor said the suppository would be getting the medicine right where it needs to be while the enema which I had been previously using goes up higher.

I've heard same about Delzicol. I'm so off that stuff moving forward. Garylousiville, no cockiness for me, I learned that lesson during my last flare!

Suppositories brought me out of my most recent flare, I am so happy to have them. I look forward to a long lasting remission. I can relate to you, since most of my inflammation is in the rectum and I had to convince my doctor to write me a prescription. It took me over two weeks to see results, and it has been miraculous.

Just one more example of how glad I am to have learned about rectal meds on this website! Since no doctor has said a thing about them to me!

shawna- are the enemas working? Why did he switch you off the supps if they were working well? Hmmm.

Katie- enemas seem to be about the same as the supps tbh. Last couple days have even been a bit of a decline but as we are talking about in the other thread I've been experimenting with diet changes. I was thinking perhaps he wanted to target further up to possibly prevent the proctitis from spreading? I see him in a couple days so I will ask.

Congrats! I find the suppositories help so much too. Keep up the regime and you should enjoy a nice long remission!
