I did medical research for years. As long as I got my work done, nobody said anything to me. Now, I am a biology lab manager at the local university. All of my co-workers and all of my boss' know about my UC and they are all very supportive. I have 2 staff that work for me, and they both cover for me when I am sick, just like I cover for them when they are sick or want to go on vacation. I have been out of work for a week feeling lousy and the only e-mail I have gotten is to take my time and feel better. hang in there, there are good people out there that will value you and your work. You just have to find them.
Nice to know people are supportive of you so that gives me some hope! I suppose (not bringing down your profession in any way), research based work allows you to be less hands on and maybe even work from home?
