I've been having a terrible time battling rectal inflammation, with some serious pain and urgency. My doc has prescribed Anusol steroid suppositories, but I feel that they provide only maybe a 10% relief of symptoms. He seems to think they should be solving most of the inflammation, has anyone else experienced any real significant benefit from these?
I've used mesalamine ones in the past and Rowasa enemas, but unfortunately along with all other mesalamine's I've tried they cause me bleeding every time so I'm in a tough spot with the rectal meds. I know that's what in theory should work best for my maintaining my symptoms but sadly I'm limited in my options.
I'll be seeing my GI tomorrow, any ideas on other approaches I could ask him about
? I'm expecting another scope will be recommended...

I've never used the steriod ones but I would think a steriod enema would be more helpful to you.

I've been curious about
this and asked about
it but I can't seem to get a clear answer from my GI. I've used the foam ones several years ago but can't really remember how effective they were. Is there another type besides the foam to ask for?

I was given Canasa and I saw results the next day. They can be a hassle, but I felt they were worth it.

What's Cinasis exactly?
neekap...some cannot take any mesalamine meds...but it could be a salicylate intolerance in general.
I'd suggest steroid enemas low dosage...
Is your UC extremely limited in the rectum? Proctofoam is an option.

For me I get the best results from Cortifoam, maybe ask your doc about
it, it's the only rectal med that works for me and although it's a steroid med it doesn't have the side effects like oral steroids (prednisone) has because it doesn't go into the bloodstream like pred does, so the majority will have little to no side effects from it...being a foam it can reach up farther than any solid suppository can.

Sorry, I misspelled it, it's Canasa. It's a weird mushy suppository that melts pretty quick. It really was effective though.
