That new guy with a weird sense of humor but has questions.

Hello token new guy here. I was diagnosed 1.9.14 with UC after two months of dealing with the symptoms. I was put on 40mg of prednisone and asacol hd 800mg 2x3/day. I have my good days where there is no pain and I have my somewhat good days where there is only minor cramping at best (an amazing feeling after two months of stubbornly torturing myself and not getting help sooner). While I could tell you about my life history for days on end I will cut to the point and ask some general questions that I have not seen while surfing these boards for a week or two (maybe I did not look back far enough, maybe I missed it and I am sorry for making someone repeat themselves if this is the case.)

1. I still have blood streaking in my stool when I go the bathroom, however, the stool is of decent consistency and it occurs if I have had minor cramping or not. Is this normal with asacol? (I love how the side effects could basically be just UC symptoms -.-) I love the fact that I am living an almost "normalish" life again ( I was hardly normal to begin)

2. I was an avid fan of exercise and am unsure of how to actually get back in the routine of exercising again without my colon telling me a few choice words and "making me bleed my own blood" (points for the movie reference)

3. What is your one favorite supplement that you would recommend (either as the most common seen or worked best for you)

4. My BM are now incosistent ranging from one to two every day or two which for me is not normal as it was at least once every day. Should I finally be trying to add more fiber? I drink at least 60 oz of water a day so increasing that would put me downing as much water as a poor swimmer on the Olympic swimming team.

Sorry again if any of these are old hat questions It has just been difficult to assimilate the appropriate information in such a short amount of time all the while understanding that this condition seems to be highly personalized for every individual. I would get a condition that is as picky as me.

Thank you as well for also confirming some of my thoughts I have had about exercising I guess I literally can use the medical waiver when I help my friend move tomorrow (which is good considering they are on the third floor). The stages of healing and just how unsuperman like my colon really is and perhaps a superficial excuse to boost my intake of delicious bean burritos.

hey mechata. here's my answers. if none of it sounds coherent, i was just having my morning sleep since pred keeps me up ALL FREAKING NIGHT.

1. i look at any sign of blood as "crap." so instead of analyzing its color, length/width, relationship status, i just say "i have blood and need to get rid of it."

2. exercise when you're ready and don't wear yourself out. your body will tell you if you're pushing yourself to hard. happens to me all the time and i take a break. i'm big on strength training and don't really do cardio- besides cleaning the house and playing with the dog.

3. not a supplement but resistant starch. no drug has ever changed my poop as much as RS. look that up!

4. how many times are you looking to go? the less fiber i eat, the less poop i have which is nice so i limit my fiber intake. i go once every day or two and get annoyed when i skip a day but it happens about twice a week. my goal would be 2 a day but my transit time is slow being on all these meds.

ahh nice cat. is that a titanic quote or close to it? i watched that movie twice in the last week.

@Kudos Ill have to look into the Paleo diet I have seen people all on the board talking about it aaaand I'm willing to try just about anything.

@Banananananana Batwoman (sorry I couldnt help it since you were awake all night like batwoman would have been) If facebook could define the status of my stools right now it would go under "it's complicated" Str. training is what I did as well and after going from exercising 8+ times a week it is just a bit of coming off an addiction to something more normal and responsive to my new found title. I will look into RS (just saw an article that said that with bran effectively treated UC). I am looking to go at least once a day but since I have been on a semi low residue diet things have been inconsistent. If I remember correctly that is a Titanic quote good catch.

@Captiano Yes! oddly enough I was surfing through the tv channels and they had ultimate dodgeball which consisted of dodgeball on trampolines. I am being 100% serious, my mind was blown.

@john there was an option when I was creating my original post that allowed me to insert a url with Img tags clicked the button it opened the tag inserted the url and clicked it again and it did the closing tag.

@Kazbern The cramping is minimal at best for the most part unless I decide to lift a couch or go overboard on cheese and possibly spicy foods (my two favorite things that I have effectively cut out [let us have a moment of silence for my loss ;P]) I will have to add more now that you mention it I have dropped off my fruit intake and been doing mostly cooked veggies. Is hummus close enough to legumes? If you say yes Ill go back to my hummus addiction :D (teasing.. somewhat). Thank you for welcoming me to the forum.

Texas chili sounds good right now since my state is pretty much flipping out over the small amounts of ice (Im looking at you houston and san antonio, dallas is just here looking at you shaking its head) Time to make a list for the grocery store.

HAHA!!! Living in a state that does not have the proper measures to deal even with a small bit of ice does have its perks as a kid! Glad you didnt get out there in the chaos I have seen all the wrecks going on today like that crazy 40 car pile up! Insurance field day!

@John at the worst you could just dropbox the image but imgur is totally the hip way to go (reddit approved) and it doesnt take up space in your dropbox.
