I was a bit in the same situation. Apparently my body could not take Asacol. I became very ill from them. Instead I begun eating Entocort pills. They helped in the beginning, but slowly I begun to flare more and more. I was feeling really bad and the doctor wanted to begin immune suppressing medicines. There I definitely did not want to end up. I am working a lot in schools where there are all kind of contaminations and the thought of immune suppressing medicines scared me.
As I did not want to take immune supressing medicines, the doctor prescribed Mutaflor for me and said I should at the same time continue with Entocort. It might have been helping something, but not much.
While flaring a lot I also did a lot of research and tried many things. Becoming fully vegan helped quite a bit, but did not solve my problem and I still spiraled down. It was not until I learned about
"food combination" I got better. Food combination is all about
separating food that is not compatible with other food. For example the enzymes breaking carbohydrates should have different pH than the enzymes breaking proteins. By separating them into different meals, the stomach does not need to compromize and the digestion becomes better.
According to the rules, food needs to be divided up into these groups:
- Food with much carbohydrates (grain, seeds, potatoes etc)
- Food with much protein (peanuts, soy, meat, egg)
- Fruit
- Neutral food (lettuce, cucumber and other vegetables having no significant amount of carbohydrates nor protein)
Combine the Neutral category with protein or carbohydrates as you want. Never combine anything else.
Also, try to leave out dairy products.
This all might not help you to completely get rid of your medicines, but it should be healthy for anyone to do. It surely will not do bad.
I got rid of all medicines and I have not been taking any medicines for several years now. When I cheat, I might have a mini flare lasting a couple of days. All endoscopies have showed that my intestine is healed. (I am not saying I am fully healed as I still could flare from cheating, but the symptomes are gone)
