Uceris - Anyone Try It

Just a quick update.

I was prescribed Uceris by my GI this past summer while in a moderate flare. After a 5 week course, my system healed well and I have not had more than minor setbacks since.

The doc also switched me to Lialda (and upped the doseage) after not tolerating Dezicol and the new formulation.

In my experience the side effects of Uceris were much milder than Pred.

I really don't understand just taking Uceris for 8 weeks and then stopping. It is not a cure. Like anything else it can sometimes help heal the colon but once you stop you are soon back to square one all over again unless you have a maintenance strategy that works. They should find a way to prescribe Uceris forever if it works. Maybe after the eight weeks is over you could take it once or twice per week along with occasional rectal meds and/or oral 5ASA's.

My wife has been on Uceris for 6 1/2 weeks and she is doing well. She has been taking remicade since 2005 May. I will update everyone if she stays in remission. Its like every 2 years she gets a flare then she take predisone ans she s good for another 2 years. We will she how she does with uceris. she is still on remicade and due for another on Jan 6.

Been on Uceris 25 mg a week and a half, worked for reducing flare but starting to have Same side effects I did on the Pred!
Insomnia, washed out, shaking legs,arms and keeps jacking my sugar. I became a zombi on the pred. Literally couldn't function, hardly walk, had to do aqua therapy even at as low as 5 mg.

I have been doing good with minor flares for the last two years since I cut out as many preservatives, artificial anything, and unnatural foods or drinks. However just when I least expect it it flares up. It likes to stay active in the lowest point. I usually add the Canasa when it flares but for the last three months that didn't seem to be helping. Had a scope, confirmed flare in fist 6 - 10" and Gi decided to try the Uceris with a 30 day blast of the Canasa. Cramping and bleeding have subsided and cleared up but now zombi crashes are starting.

Anyone able to go on disability from their UC?

Diagnosed UC 2006, Fibro, depression, and anxiety in 2011,

Are you asking about permanent disability or temporary disability? During my first flare my GI put me on disability for a few months. I'd suggest starting a new thread about it.

I think they were referring to permanent. You must live in a state that has short term disability insurance where they take some premiums out of every paycheck for a state short term disability program. There are only a very small handful of states that do that. Most all states have no such thing as short term disability unless it is a benefit through your employer, but it is not required as it is in the few states that do have it.

about Uceris, if it isn't working then you may want to ask about Hydrocortosone enemas. They will treat the lower part of your colon with steroids and have minimum side-effects compared to Pred and maybe Uceris.

edit, ok I found it, it is called entocort here.

Here doctors give it for crohn not colitis because it targets the ileon (sorry I don't know the French word ) and so it is less effective for colitis, pred is better to deal with it.

Be aware that the mfg coupons are NOT going to work if you are on Medicare so be prepared for a hefty charge after you reach that donut hole.
Any females out there experiencing yeast infections on Uceris?
I'm also getting headaches, fatigue, and feeling sooo hot!
BUT UC Is "in check" at present and flare is subsiding.
