The more blood the worse the flare?

Hi I have proctitis and experiencing my first flare after diagnosis. It started with bloating and gas and after a couple of days came the mucus and blood. Doubled my oral mesalizine and started initially asacol foam enema for two weeks, which I had to stop as wasn't retaining very well. Now on both pred and pentasa suppositories. The last few days I have been bleeding a lot more although only having BMS 1-2 times a day. Some gas/ mucus in between. Just been now and clots, whole bowl full of blood not nice. Does this necessarily mean the flare is getting worse?

Yes, your flare is getting worse if you are progressively getting worse in any one symptom. Flare symptoms vary by the person some have blood, others have more bms, others have diarrhea, other mucus. Lucky one's like me get all of the above in massive quantities.

Try to nip your flare in the bud, if you can. Flares tend to get progressively worse, until you get them under control. Keep in touch with your GI, tell him/her about your progress, and change around your meds and dosages until you kick that flareup's butt.

I agree with Pluot about hemmies causing lots of bleeding also. Mine used to pour out blood into the toilet.

How long on the pred and supps?

It's usually the case for me personally that increased blood is a bad sign but very true that it doesn't mean as much (anything?) if haemorrhoids are causing it.
