c diff test - Uceris - update

How long do c.diff tests take? I was hopeful since they needed fresh poop to test that they start the tests quick. Do they take a few days?

Also I havent posted about my GI appt yet because I wasn't particularly happy at the end of it. I will be spending the next 4wks on nothing but Uceris.

She thinks the Lialda has been making me worse any time im on it so I cant get any benefit from the prednisone. She first said she wanted me on 40mg pred only for 4 weeks... I started crying and she pulled out the Uceris idea.

So... major break down in my sitz bath last night. Hubby has been really good to me though.

And I stuffed my face yesterday and today so far and I dont look like total hell... food is necessary. Ugh.

So im just keepin my head down and trying to pull through all this crap

when I do my stool tests including c-diff, I pick up a test kit from a lab and take it home and return it the next day. They send it off and I usually get my results in 3-5 days. I just recently spoke to my GI about Uceris as I've been on prednisone for so long due to surgery. He had told me it's not as effecitve as prednisone. He gave me some samples and after my first dose the majority of the pill came out in my stool.

Ok so the Lialda makes you worse. I get that you may be intolerant to it but Uceris alone isn't a treatment plan. Grrr. I am so angry for you.

u gut so screwed by gi doctors, katie. it drives me nuts. i wish she would've started u on something WITH the uceris. the last thing u need are more steroids since u were on them for so long already.

r u just sticking with the samples or getting a script? did u find out if ur insurance will cover it?

I need to call and see if uceris is covered. Im sure it is... my new insurance is crazy. Then I can get a script.

Yeah I dont think taking a step back when I am doing so bad is a good idea!

I need to be going forward! And then she wants to do a colonoscopy before we move forward after the Uceris. Hell, give me one in 3 weeks. You'll know by then that the Uceris isn't working, I should have been put on actual UC meds and we can get this show on the road.

I still have that appt scheduled in a month... so ill be taking advantage of a second opinion for sure.

Until then... I consider myself med-free... and this is going to suck :/

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear that your appointment wasn't helpful. Start sourcing a second opinion right away and hang in there.

Regarding the Uceris: I used the following link to print out a coupon which I took to Target. I will be picking up my rx today or tomorrow for $25.00 for a months supply.

It sounds like you should run far, far away from this GI doctor and find a new one. Sorry you are having such a rough time.

Hey katie I'm a little confused, I thought from past threads the reason that you didn't have a GI was that you don't have insurance. Why was it so hard to get in to see a GI if you do have insurance? Why can't you go see another one?

Hope you have better luck soon.

The Uceris coupon we used a few weeks ago brought the costs down from $1300 to $700. We hadn't met our deductible yet. 3 days prior to that pick up, the Endocort was $1100. and the Canasa was $750. Unfortunately we are at day 3 in the hospital. Making good progress toward the deductible, but also awaiting the CDiff test.:). They said 48 hours. Used the Uceris for 2 weeks, and it didn't work that fast for her.
Pretty bad shape when we lander here, 25 BM's,throwing up bright yellow bile. Don't know that Uceris had time in transit to work. May try again if they don't make her ween off the solumedrol with regular Pred.

Well Quincy I asked and she said no. that they wouldn't do anything for me because I have pancolitis. I asked wouldn't they help with the rectal inflammation at least... help with the urgency. She said no.

I'm so confused. And in pain. I am trying to survive the pain so that I can keep my job. I love it. And there isn't much else in the area that pays so well for part time and is in my field.

I do have insurance now... but that doesn't magically clear up GI doctor's calendar books... the only reason I got to see this GI so fast was because of my ER trip. 5 days later.

Still no call from the cancelation list on the other office where I have an appt March 19th.
People keep saying to go see someone else. Or go to Milwaukee or Madison to see the specialists... and thats fine and dancy and all... but its not like they have openings this week either!
And... I have no sick/vacation left. Already used it all up on my UC. So if I need to go down to an appt 3 hours away... I wont make it back for work by 2pm.

I don't know what I am suppose to do. Can someone tell me what to do?

Do you have a GP that you like? I would run all of this by my GP if I were you (I love mine) and beg for some suggestions/rowasa. Mine is always willing to call specialists to see if they can sneak me in on an emergency basis but I live in a mid-sized city with a large medical school so there are a ton of doctors in my area.
The work situation is tough, how long have you worked at your job? Would they be willing to give you some extra time for medical reasons?

I work in a small non profit... only 3 employees.
and its only been 2 of us for the last month actually.
so... no, lol, they wont. I dont qualify for FMLA because were so small.

My GP and NP (whom love me) have washed their hands of my UC and refuse to do anything else.
I live in a small city. There arent any doctors to sneak me in to because there just arent that many Gastroenterologists around here. Like 2 in one network and 3 in the other.
