Did my Humira shots (2) with the help of the nurse that came to my house tonight...I decided to do them in my leg this time because I could grab more skin and not worry about the needle hitting me in the finger by accident, and it was actually less painful than in the gut...so I guess from here on out I'll just do it in the thighs (alternating each time as instructed).

The nurse said that I should really start to see more improvements after tonight's shots...so looking forward to that...hope she's right.

I give myself the cimzia shots in the thighs. I find it much easier and less pain than tummy.

Hope the shots kick in soon! Big hug!

Nursemb and jano since I've experienced both now I too was shocked that the thigh for me was easier lol it just didn't sting/burn near as bad or as long like it did in the gut so I'm just gonna stick with it...funny how we're all so different lol.

i've only ever done shots in my thigh and arm and i find the arm SO EASY. i'm not sure humira can be taken in the arm but simponi can. i did all my humira shots in my thigh and wanted to die. the simponi shot hurt a little in my thigh and was sore, but i have no pain from the arm shot.

It can be given in the fatty part of the back of the arm- the tricep area. However, I admin my own, so no idea how I would pinch with one hand and inject with the other...my GI didn't even offer it as an option when I was there.

Is Simponi give. IM or subQ? Not too familiar with that one

You can only choose the thigh or abdomen with Humira. I hope this works for you too, pb4- keep posting as to your results! Thanks for your kind words on my surgery post...  I only have 3 more Humira pens myself, that'll bring me right up to early April.

Oh bananagirl, how do you pinch the area that you're going to inject when you do it in the arm? As Nursemb mentioned, the arm isn't an option for Humira...you have to pinch the area so you don't hit an artery with the needle when it goes in...the nurse last night was very clear about that, she also mentioned it's a big risk to take by not pinching the area and to never try doing it flush on the skin...always pinch and poke.

Correct...subcutaneous injections CAN generally be given in the arm...I'm not really sure why Humira that sing an option. However, that is also why it's given in the back of the arm...the fatty section.

It's a very slim chance that even if you did it flush with the skin you would hit an artery (much higher risk to hit a vein or artery with an intramuscular injection)
The bigger concern with subcutaneous is you don't want it in the muscle you want it in fatty tissue...which is what you pinch up.

yeah, i do back of the arm with the syringe. i just sit there and my stepdad grabs some flesh and injects it. easy peasy.
