There may be no validity to this, but I've often wondered. I saw ads a while back about a class action lawsuit against the makers of Accutane since it was possibly a trigger for development of IBD in those who used it.
I'm no chemist, but it looks like the compound for these is somewhat similar.
Accutane: Isotretinoin
Retin-A Micro: Tretinoin
I don't know what the iso- would do.
As a teen I used Retin-A Micro for a few years to treat acne. It would have been roughly 10 years later that I was diagnosed with UC, although symptoms of UC were present maybe 7-8 years later.
I'm not looking to sue whoever made the drug, but I would certainly like to know if it had anything to do with my current UC diagnosis. I am willing to let bygones be bygones but I would at least want to know.
My other theory is that fairly heavy use of Echinacea while in college (didn't want to get sick so I didn't miss class) could have been a culprit. I'm finding less supporting evidence for this theory, though.
