Very urgent advice needed

GI has ordered some lab test for 6MP to find out the level and based on that lab test he will prescribe the dosage.


I got Urine culture of last year and this year. Urine culture report of last year before colitis started was with the labs and my pediatrician office people had misplaced the copy of it. The urine culture reports "No growth after 48 hours". Urine analysis report had reported few bacteria's and pediatrician ordered Augmentin which triggered a chain reaction of ulcerative colitis.

If it is not UTI, then what is the problem called? 2-3 weeks before colitis, she was going 10-15 times a day urine and was not able to hold it even for 5 secs.She had atleast 10 accidents at that time. Pediatrician then said she has UTI. If it was not UTI, then the name of the problem is something else. I will probably see a urologist to figure it out and if it had any relevance to colitis.

This time when she got a flare, she was having stinging pain in her vagina when she urinates. First few days of the flare, she ran more times to bathroom for urinating and not for diarrhea.

Could it be interstitial cystitis - inflammation of the bladder wall (not caused by a bacterial infection)?

It's best if a urologist decides what is happening.

Her blood in urinine is microscopic. I called to fix an appointment with an urologist, the front desk lady at urology department said it should go to a nephrologist as microscopic blood means something kidney related.

I know a lot of times, for guys, when you are really in a flare, it almost feels as if you almost have a prostate inflammation as well. The problem is that you are so irritated at times down there there is so much darn plumbing so close together, it pretty much irritates everything...especially if you are a child, and its hard to discern exactly where it's coming from, you know?

If the culture is negative, I agree...it may be just nonspecific cystitis or shes just so darn inflamed from the flare everything is irritated and it's hard to figure out whats hurting her. I bet if the flare is calmed down the rest would go away, I know it works that way for me.

Yesterday, I met a pediatrics specialist GI from another large practise. GI diagnosis based on colonoscopy and biopsy said she has mild left sided colitis with terminal ileum very mild inflamation.

This GI said the way Prednisone level that was started was very low and the tapering was done was too fast without giving time for healing.Her 1st Prednisone was given for 4 weeks and was started at 21MG with tapering every 3MG every 5 days. This got completed in less than 5 weeks. Second time, it was started at 21MG and tapered every 3rd day by 1.5MG.

She suggested to start Prednisone at 40MG. Stay on Pred 40MG for two weeks.Taper by 5MG every week subesequently.

She said she would prefer to go with 6MP. However, she said if you parents are apprehensive she can try lialda 1.2gms twice a day.

We are very extremely confused. I feel I should give Lialda before ging to 6MP a try but also very scared.I need your advice and suggestion on which way to go.If it does not work then we have to start Prednisone (4th time) again and then switch to 6MP.

1>I asked her about UTI and she said she was given wrong antibiotic Augmentin.She said she looks at only Gastro issues and does not think UTI bacteria is responsible for Colitis.

We came back home and had another surprise.1st time on Prednisone she was given Prednisolone Sod Phosphat Syrup 15Mg/5Ml which needed refrigeration.
2nd time my GI had changed to prednisolon syrup which did not read refrigeration. I by mistake was refrigerating it till yesterday. When we got the new prescription we read the label clearly and was shocked at our mistake. Will this cause a side effect or is it cause of her current flare?


Very scared and confused overall. Don't know what to do? She has lost lot of weight and is in 5th percentile. My wife wants to start Chicken for her as we want to avoid Dairy for some time. Is there a digestive enzyme brand that you are aware of which is good?She has never had meat before and we are currently vegetarian.

I'm still waiting for all the stool and lab test results to come and hopefully one of it has the solution for my current issue.
