Prepping and crying...

Sorry girl. Having spent a lot of time crying today myself, I completely understand. Hang in there, this too shall pass. You will make it. Life is tough, but so are you.

I pretend my prep time is a vacation. I stock the bathroom with gatorade and water, fully charged laptop. And some brain scrambler games books. I just hide out in the bathroom for hours, playing games on my phone or watching tv/movie on my laptop.

Prep is not fun. It sucks to feel like an empty skeleton.
But just try to push through it. And in a couple hours when the poop stops... SLEEP

What prep are you using?

I did GoLytley...ONCE. They should have named it "Gallon O'Slime".

Next time I did senna tablets and mag citrate (much better, even while in the midst of a flare)

I had to prep recently and I completely relate to how you're feeling. I was so nauseous after only drinking like one-eight of the prep. I felt horrible and miserable. I got through the scope but I don't think I was very cleaned out because i was too sick to drink all the prep :( Do your best.

I think the hot bath sounds like a really good idea!
I'm going to put that on my "list" so I don't forget it!

I was allowed stock cubes and jelly? That helped a lot because I could fool myself that I was actually eating food.

Sorry you have to go through this. Just look after yourself and remember it will soon be over.

I know! I laughed my butt off when I read the name of GoLytely when I did my prep. Too funny.

For my last sigmoidoscopy, the only prep I had to do was clear liquids and then an enema the nurse gave me. It wasn't too bad. I only did GoLytely once. When I was first diagnosed I was so sick they didn't make me prep. I was so inflamed they couldn't get the scope around the bend to the transverse colon without risking perforation.

I've never successfully finished a prep.

First time, I was SO SO SO sick that I ended up almost too dehydrated to have my scope. I nearly threw up my morning prep so I didn't finish it. However, I will say that the night before, the prep actually made going to the bathroom a LOT less horrible. Like, it was a relief (no pun intended) to have it so much more regular (every hour).

Second time, I thought, "I'm so smart! I'll mix the lemon-lime flavored mag citrate with SPRITE! I'm such a genius!" Guess what? Don't do it. Mag citate is overpowering so you just end up ruining the Sprite and everything tastes terrible. Again, couldn't finish the prep because it was just too much to drink.

Also, carbonation? Who thought that would make it EASIER to drink when you're having GI problems?

Final time was for a flex sig. My rectum was super frickin ulcerated, which means that the saline enema was not tolerable. I took the enema and couldn't manage 15 seconds holding it in before I had to go to the bathroom. I was actually screaming in pain and afterwards I cried for an hour. I called the hospital and asked what I should do if I couldn't hold in the enemas for 5-10 minutes, and they completely misinterpreted me. They thought I meant that the enemas were working so effectively that I didn't NEED to wait 5 minutes. UM NO. I ended up consoling myself by reminding myself that I hadn't eaten since the previous afternoon and had basically already flushed my system that morning. Sure enough, no problems during the flex sig (and my doctor showed me how ulcerated my whole sigmoid colon and rectum were; he couldn't believe I had even been able to take the enemas).

Stef17. Sorry your feeling do bad. My GI told me to just drink what I can handle. If it starts bothering me to quit. That's why I like him so well. When I was in the hospital, I had diarrhea so bad. I had to drink some.more of the nasty stuff for a test I was having. I had so many test but I think It was the small bowel follow up. I go for the test. They scan your stomach and bowels every 15 minutes to see the progress of the drink. I made it about a hour then started having horrible cramps. I had to go so bad. The tech came in and I told her I had to go. She told me I couldn't. I told her she better unlock that bathroom door or she would be cleaning up a mess. She was hateful but unlocked it. My GI came in to see me after I got back to the room. I told him about it. He got mad and said I did the right thing. He headed down to the test room when he left mine. I knew someone was going to get chewed on. ...... Sorry this is the lenght of a small novel. Lol.

I have never cried over UC but prednisone makes me cry when I discuss heavy issues related to my daughter. I don't sob but cant stop tears flowing. Its embarrassing for a man. Then off prednisone that sort of thing never happens.
