Which Oral 5ASA to start?

To give some background: I am coming off of my first really bad flare. Was in the hospital a week, did 30mg pred tapering eventually to 0 by 5mg/week. I am also taking Uceris which I think works great. No increased bleeding after the pred taper.

Long story short, Rowasa was my go-to for maintenance, but it seems to be reacting weird with the Tylenol 3 I am on. Not to go into too much detail, but it lingers around too long now and makes me uncomfortable.

I go in for a follow-up tomorrow and may ask for an oral mesalamine to start until I taper off the Tylenol. During my last visit the doc mentioned Colazol? Or something with a C. Any advice?

When I was diagnosed with left sided UC I was given Lialda and the Rowasa. I've been in remission for 3 years now and now I only have 2 cm of inflammation left so I'm now taking the Lialda still and Canasa suppositories.

IMHO, pretty much a 5-ASA is a 5-ASA....but, Lialda does have a coating that releases farther down the colon for more of a left sided help. That's why you only have to take 4 pills as opposed to so many of the rest. You make up for it in bulk in the other ones to force all that drug down to the problem area. You have to take a LOT of Colazol to get it down to the left side if that's where your problem is.

Lialda is only 4 pills max....feel better!!
