Pretty sure I have an infection or c. diff, but....

Hi all, I hope someone can give me some advice. I am so tired of this stupid disease and all the foolishness that comes along with it. That being said, I have been having lots of C. Diff like symptoms for about a week and finally called doctor for help. Of course, she can't see me until April 7th. Do you think if I called and asked to speak with her to explain all my symptoms, she would be able to write me a prescription for something like Flagyl just to try? Or am I just a lost, mucousy mess until then? Or could I call my PCP and ask?

Thanks in advance. I try and work this decisions out with my boyfriend but he really doesn't seem to want to talk about my bowel movements. Go figure... eyes

Surely your PCP, knowing your history of UC, would be able to order a stool test for you. If they do not, talk to a nurse at your GIs office and another doc could order it.

My doc would not order Cdiff meds until it was confirmed.

Having had CDiff, I know that this is something you'd want to get a handle on ASAP.

I think you have to push for a stool test! I wouldn't want to wait that long, and its unlikely you will receive meds for something unconfirmed....dont take no for an answer, with something this important...good luck.

Just tell the nurse you think you have cdiff. It's no trouble for them to order the labs. In the mean time make the appointment anyway. If you do have cdiff they'll bring you in sooner. If you don't, you're still on the schedule. I did the same thing a few weeks ago because my flare was out of control and I wanted to find out if I had cdiff. They ordered the test at the lab for me with no problem.

Sometimes you just have to be your own advocate and take matters into your own hands. You shouldn't have to wait for April 7th. All of the above suggestions are good. Stand up for yourself.

it's not necessary to go to an appointment just for a c diff test. you call and they can send the prescription over to the bloodwork place. i've done this tens of times.

you don't wanna take flagyl just because you "think" you have it. this is how you become resistant to antibiotics.

Yeah... call docs office and ask for a stool test to be ordered.

Then go drop off some poop.

The process is super simple. Poop in their cup. And they usually get back to your within a week.
