So I had my annual check up appt with the GI today and this year I hit my 10 year mark of having UC and he wants yearly scopes to screen for cancer. I completely understand why but they just suck sooo much! Ok griping over.
He said everything sounds like its going well and the occasional diarrhea I experience is probably IBS related but we will find out in May when I have my scope.
Just thought I'd share. I haven't been around much :)

ya, my doc would like to look up my butt more than I want him to - so far I'm getting my way :-)

oh gosh. i've never heard of that rule!! i definitely wouldn't obey!!

i have a feeling my doc will wanna scope me this year and i'd agree if i could do it with a different GI at a different hospital. i have a feeling he might not be happy about that though...

I'm totally fine with doing them yearly. He told that if you have had pancolitis and have had UC 10+ years your risk for colon cancer increases quite a bit. I'd rather be proactive. They just suck though! I'm wondering if he'll hold to the once a year or not. We'll see! I really like my GI. I purposely chose him because he's an IBD specialist.

Bananagirl if you aren't happy with your GI you should switch!!

I just dont wanna hurt his feelings!! Ive had 7 butt probes and his was the only one that i felt horrendous afterwards.

BG is there a different dr in your practice you could try?

Delta I feel for you. You'd think after so many you'd get used to the prep but you don't.

I've hit the ten year mark too - but it sounds like the guidelines have changed and I might be screened every 2 years. I was told every year after ten years when I was diagnosed. As I've got pancolitis I need to be careful.

Looks like there's a few of us hitting the ten year mark around the same time - party?

I've been on the yearly scope schedule for 3 years now... fun, fun! My GI gives the same reasons- 10 year make, increased cancer risk, etc. Although hard to believe, but I will NEVER have a scope again in my life! I've got 1 last prep to get thru, 2 bottles of mag citrate & a fleet enema, & I'm done! Goodbye colon! I'll miss the propofol though.... smilewinkgrin

Just had my scope yesterday. I got to take a year off last year, but this year they found a polyp. So I'll probably be back to every year now. :( Not fun, but I'm glad I did it.

Yep, I'm every 2 years as well. And I thought every 2 years was bad....ech, I would hate having to go yearly.

But Ucyousee, since I've hit the 10 year mark twice does that mean I get twice the amount of presents?? :)

Presents, a cake and a bottle of champagne for over twenty years of UC, and for moderating the forum (we might not be able to drink it but we can shake it up and pop the cork!)

Welcome to the club Sam. My next annual is in early May. Even though the prep for the procedure is not enjoyable, I still find the requirement that I can't drive myself to and from the procedure the most annoying.

I miss my peds day when they would give me general anesthesia. Having my first big kid scope with twilight was scary!
