@Canada Mark - You are definitely right about us being tough! UC will do that do a person. People who don't have this can't possibly understand.

I just want to say "thanks" for being willing to do that. I know that if I ever face the need for surgery I will appreciate having you around.

Even though it helps to have a perfectly worded response no one here, including myself, can really have a perfectly worded response even most of the time. It just doesn't happen. I have looked at many of my old posts and thought that I could have worded them better. And tone of a post is almost impossible to figure out sometimes. What I'm trying to say is don't obsess about making the perfectly worded post because that rarely happens for anyone.

I don't post here often, but I do read a lot of the threads. I know I haven't been a member on here that long, but I feel like I have something to contribute, seeing that I've dealt with UC for a little while.

Maybe I am just too sensitive, but I have to say that at times I feel like this group is kind of cliquish. When I do post, I feel like people are correcting me or challenging what I have to say.

Are the veteran members the only ones that have any weight to their answers here? If so, I guess I need to find a new forum to join. confused

No, even people that pour their heart into this place for years still get attacked, challenged, questioned. It isn't just you. It's the nature of the Internet, and here is especially bad, but not unique.

As Path said, no one is safe...not even moderators. Tho we tend to get attacked quite often and in the past we have lost some great mods because of the bullying. We managed to get rid of the bullies and we try to nip things in the bud...but if you ever feel attacked, abused or neglected....please tell one of us. As much as we try, we can not read every single post and things tend to get overlooked.

Although I have been around so long I am deemed a regular member, I often go through phases of reading and not reading but the info I have found here is invaluable despite the occasional drama. My vote is explore other options but check back and it'll be all new again. Although I don't know the members in a chummy way as others do beyond their usernames, I always feel welcome.

I have never seen much bullying or attacking here. Having strong opinions is a good thing most of the time and people here tend to get passionate about their beliefs. Sometimes that may come off wrong, but I've found a group of mostly empathetic people in the midst of some very bad circumstances. Newbies welcome here, please stay and post your questions and if you have them, answers!

Regardless of what you read, I don't really think anyone here has a truly bad side....except there was one hotdog that I pretty well ripped into and reported that summarily 'disappeared' after ripping into mesalamines saying they were BS perpetrated by drug companies and totally useless.....hmm......

Anyway, everyone pretty much has something to contribute. And by reading, you are learning. I came here with an extensive medical background and 39 years of UC...and I have learned a LOT by reading the posts on here about things I didn't know existed, which honestly, I didn't think was possible....so I am very thankful for.

I may not use the things they talk about, but I LEARNED some things...and that in of itself is valuable..regardless of my background and experience. You may not KNOW things medically, but you can contribute OPINIONS and EXPERIENCE (and kind words)..and that's sometimes even MORE important!

Do you understand us young lady?!?!? yeah

It is what you make of it.

As much support as I give, I certainly don't get it back from as many. But I do depend on the die-hard members a LOT!

cliques...like minds or opposites that are attracted for different reasons. that's normal.
Some demand more attention, and they get it. Some ask a gazillion questions and never respond back...only to ask more questions until no one responds. Some only stick to their threads/questions and never venture to other ones....self-focussed and never offer support to those who have given them tons of support.

This is a great forum, and you'll get your answers or responses or someone will thank you or take your suggestions.

Rectal meds...I've gotten flack for that since I started here. But now, others have seen the value and continue the suggestions...it's a relief!

As far as ember's problem member, that's me...as if no one else could figure that one out :-b

A few of us have had many issues with each other, but mutual understanding/respect? allows us to still respond and offer support to each other (which is comforting, actually).

Stay if you like, venture out to wherever....as I said, it is what you make of it.

Yeah, I pretty much gave up when someone told me that if I'd just change my diet, I wouldn't need surgery. I still have not heard what diet heals strictures.
