Cards to show you have UC and need toilet access?

Hi everyone , I'm a new member as of today, I was diagnosed with uc in September last year I've had a lot of treatment and I'm finally in remission but still have to dash to the toilet every so often but with no blood now my question I have is I recently got told I couldn't use the toilet in my opticians recently and I was so desperate To go I was sweating in panic , I would like to know if anyone has a card to show that you have a medical condition and should be able to use any toilet any where , thank you x

I have that card in my wallet, got it in advance of a plane trip years ago, but have never ever needed to use it. It's free and they sent it very quickly.

That optician is a dolt. Many people, not just UC'ers need to use facilities. Lord, the senior population in Florida would organize a revolt if any eye doctor didn't have one.

I personally would send them an email telling them you will consider taking your business elsewhere. If you do not get any response or an apology with plans to change their ways, if it were me I'd alert other people to this business using yelp.com or Angie's Health List. Be the change you want to see.

I have found one in uk called Just can't wait toilet card, it's on order xx

I'm a member of Crohns and Colitis UK. The membership card doubles up as a "can't wait" card on the reverse.

Just looked and they do them on amazon starting at £2.50 !!!

Welcome to the forum. Looks like you've gotten great support already. I just want to add that if you are having urgency issues like this it is premature to say you are in remission. Keep working with your GI to get all the way there.

Thank you every one for your help and kindness , I only joined today :) feeling happy to know I'm not the only person who has this ( it's nice to feel normal ). Kazbern hi :) I've been in remission for six weeks now after a horrible eight weeks of pred , then that didn't clear up totally so I was then told to use the suppository form for another 6 weeks then still didn't stop my bleeding so then tried a foam suppository which was very painfull so stopped that one and went back on another 4 weeks of pred oral !!! My toilet visits are creeping slowly back up again so I'm getting worried I'm going to have to start all over again , only had 6 weeks off :( xxx

I don't have any mucus any more , and I'm prob going about 5 times a day to the loo , I had a my calprotectin levels checked last September when I was diagnosed at it was 1500 which is very high , I had the same test done in march this year and it had gone down to 250 :) so I'm just on azacol now 3 times a day and hoping it stays away for a while xxx

If your quality of life improved, I would consider that remission even if I'm still flaring a bit. That is my personal thought. To be honest, I would do what others suggested, tell them of your condition. Isn't it against the law to not let you use it if you have a medical condition? That or they will have to clean up my poo if it gets anywhere :') (I guess I could deal with the embarrassment in this situation)

My consultant tells me that if I'm managing ok ( which I am with hardly no symptoms ) then carry on with my azacol and enjoy life cause you just don't know how long before I have another flare up . To be honest I'm still learning about IBD , I think it's a struggle to inform family, friends and especially people I work with what it is and how it effects people and how serious it is .
