sharp pain in stomach, vomiting, and diarreah

Hi,
I've had UC for 13 years. I am currently on Remicade and no other prescriptions. Last year I expereinced symptoms that I thought were UC related but am wondering now if I have IBS too. Anyway I have been on the SCD diet for around 8 months. Everyone once in a while I slip up but this week I really slipped up with my eating. Over the past month I have been having awful stomach cramps. I would then have a bw not necessarily diarrhea and after about 6 hours it would go away. I have had at least 3 episodes of this. Today is the 4th with the exception that I have diarrhea no urgency ( I don't think its UC related) severe pain which is lower at this moment so I am typing this, and vomiting. I have no fever, but I can still feel pain especially from the vomiting. I am just wondering if any of you have ideas. Could this be another wonderful extension to the UC would you go the the ER or tough it out?

I had very frequent diarrhoea and vomiting in Jan. After 3 days I saw my GP who did an abdominal exam and sent me to hospital where I was admitted. CRP was elevated and xray was bad - hospital was the right decision. I'd say at least get checked by Dr. (I'd been in a flare for 6 months and it suddenly became severe after caught chest virus)

Thanks for replying what does "CRP was very high and xray was bad" mean????

CRP is a substance (protein) produced by the liver that increases in the presence of inflammation in the body, so I assume high levels of it show liver problems/ possible failure and the xray may have confirmed it being inflamed or in trouble.

It's always good to check your with your doctor. Besides it being a problem with the liver.. what happens for you when you eat or drink liquids? Do you get sharp pains within the next couple of minutes?

I drank some chicken stock and I did not feel any worse. My stomach still just aches going from a low level ache to some shooting pains that go away a lot sooner that earlier today.

As Katarzyna said, C-reactive protein is an inflammatory marker - it is an indicator of inflammation in the body, but doesn't elevate for everyone during a flare. In my case it indicated how inflamed my colon was. My liver results were fine as I remember. I think CRP more commonly elevates in Crohns. The other test for inflammation is the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) - again this doesn't "work" for everyone - ie they can be inflamed with a normal ESR. The x-ray showed my bowel was inflamed.

Are you feeling better today? If the vomiting has stopped then maybe it's OK to watch and wait, but if you still have diarrhoea and vomiting it's a good idea to get a Dr to do an abdominal check, and check your blood pressure, pulse rate, temperature, at least.
