Update on Breast Biopsy

Hi Everyone-
Yesterday a 7 mm flat polyp was removed from my rectum by a method called Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR).
To prevent severe bleeding, an endoclip was used ( kinda like a staple). The clip will dissolve in the next several months.

I usually experience bleeding after colonoscopies because my GI takes 50 or more tissue samples for biopsy each time so I've learned not to panic if I see blood. Have had a little bleeding yesterday evening and this am but think it might be from hemmies that were irritated during the prep before the surgery. Time will tell.

For now, I'm sticking with liquids or soft foods even though I was told I could go back to a normal diet. (Hasn't worked for me in the past.)

Also feel pretty good because I drank coconut water during and after the prep and have been drinking protein shakes and sports drinks since surgery. Usually, after a prep I'm drained of energy.

Still hanging in there after being told in 2010 that I should have a total colectomy.
Waiting for pathology results but optimistic because biopsy 6 months ago on the same polyp was negative. Wish me luck!

Sounds as if you got thru the procedure like a real trooper, but make sure you get enough rest to promote healing of the mucosal resection. I agree with your choice to use caution on diet for a while to minimize food irritants. A few yrs back I read that special equipment called a helix hydrojet had been developed to facilitate removal of flat colon polyps. Curious as to whether your doctor used it just now. Best wishes for you to be permanently rid of polyps & other colon nuisances. / Old Hat (33 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

UPDATE:

Good News: The biopsy on the rectal polyp removed during April was negative.

Today I experienced a stereotactic breast biopsy. Not the most painful thing but definitely something I would rather not repeat.

The breast surgeon who performed it gets 5 stars from me.
Very caring and thoughtful. Hands down, the best doctor I've met to date. He said the calcification(s) and nearby tissue have been removed so that may be the end of this chapter.
Depends on the pathologist's report.

You poor thing!......that's an awful lot to handle, my thoughts are with you, and I hope you can start to relax now after all this stress.

Good news!

I admit to being *very* confused when I started reading the thread, after reading the "breast biopsy" title. I wondered if I was smoking something or if you were smoking something. ;)

IAS...I missed this original post (not on here as often and hard to catch up).

I'm soooooooooo happy to hear both the rectal AND breast biopsies were negative. The stress of the procedures and the waiting is tenfold.

You deserve a mighty long break after this.
