Good for you jasherlynch; for being your own advocate and not allowing the doctors to dictate your treatment, which didn't seem to be working. My son had a FT via Colonoscopy in July 2013. After that, he had a series of 4 enema transplants. He was off all med's and in complete REMISSION for the first time ever! That lasted until he contracted a sinus infection and took a 3 days course of Antibiotics. Within days of taking the Antibiotics, all of his UC symptoms returned. We are now doing Prednisone to get the inflammation under control and will be doing FT's very soon. By the way, his remission lasted for over 8 months!! That's something he was never able to achieve with medication!
Antibiotics for sinus issues are notorious for causing colitis in folks. That's just a hard trade-off to make. Here's what the
data says for using antibiotics to treat sinus problems:
94% saw no benefit
6% were helped by faster resolution of symptoms
12% were harmed by medication side effects
I would err on the side of caution if they do this again. There is a strong potential for causing unintended complications with this mode of treatment.
Ginger, turmeric and honey clears most sinus issues within days and does NOT cause ulcerative colitis.
