Anyone else bite their nails?

I've bitten my nails my entire life. A really bad habit.

I got to thinking several times, what if the nails on my digestive tract caused this?!?

I only bite mine when I can't find someone to do it for me

Don't bite my nails but tend to without even knowing it bite the skin around my nails. Which by the way I haven't done it in years but recently started to do it again (again without realizing it until i see blood).

I attribute the biting to my nerves, which again makes sense seeing that i am the nervous type and that is one reason I think I ended up with uc.

My thoughts.

I've never bitten my nails...I know what's under them possibly after grade school microscope viewing of stuff taken from our daily lives...ugh.

My brother used to bite his to the quick...grossed me out. btw, he doesn't have UC or CD, but he is an arsehole..lol.

With the new twist to this, my son can be a real arsehole, never bit his nails, and has Crohn's !!! HA

LOL...that was when I was in grade 4, so about age 9 or 10?...I'm 59 now. Never forgotten.

Always happy to offer some insight..lol.

Just to add that your mouth has horrible bacteria as well...you can infect your fingers and nails with all sorts of nasties that can be difficult to heal.

Hello everyone I'm new to this forum.
I've not heard about that the only thing that I've been cautioned about similar to what your describing was taking psyllium husks orally by a teacher a long time ago who was an MD because they are minute and very sharp and could cause minute intestinal cuts. This is the only info a cursory glance on the web yielded about psyllium although it does not mention that issue specifically:

the same school (Macrobiotic) did say anecdotally that nail biting is a sign of intestinal parasites (which obviously doesn't jive with whip worm therapy) but be-careful if you decide to take any of those intestinal cleansing products as they can be pretty harsh and rough on the digestive tract.

A word of caution as well; my doctors are always telling me (and rightly so) not to over think things and to try one therapy at a time long enough to understand its effects positive or negative.
