Greetings, all! I'm new to the forum having finally ceased denial of my UC over the past several years.
I'm happy to find this forum and have been lurking for a month or so. I see a lot of informed individuals and some very helpful information.
I'm a clinical laboratory technologist and am very interested in clinical validity, which compels me to post a reply to this thread.
Since this is a capitalist nation, there is still opportunity for opportunists, and there are a subset of slimy individuals who are in it for the money. This extends to some licensed physicians who practice naturopathy/alt medicine where you could point to their revenue stream to indicate intent. Some things offered for $$ have not met the test of evidence-based scrutiny and are also on a spectrum of "dubiosity". Not all, but certainly some
Personally, I agree with the title of this thread and urge members to look for science/evidence based reviews in defensible, peer-reviewed journals (not "
open access").
I wish the science-based medicine site would expand its revelations to other things, including lab tests!!
Another good website is quackwatch.org and a place that focuses physicians on "Choosing Wisely" www.choosingwisely.org/
So, not to hijack this thread completely, that is all for now. If people have questions about
the clinical validity of lab tests, I have some experience in that realm.
All the best!
Mike
