I just finished treatment for h pylori. It was two weeks on omeprazole, clarithromycin and Metronidazol for two weeks. The original pain I was having was heartburn, bloating and a pain on my side just under my rib cage. The antibiotics gave me diarrhea several times each day but I've been taking probiotics which I think have been helping.
I still have this pain on my right side and it is driving me crazy! It starts off just below my ribs but sometimes it travels to the top of my rib and towards my back. This is the same pain I had when I realized I was infected with h pylori. I have had ultrasounds which show my gallbladder is normal and I do not have a fever or nausea. I have a GI consultation appt in about
two weeks but how do I cope with this pain? I saw a dr yesterday who said just put voltran cream on it, it's probably a muscle issue. I am taking 20 mg of omeprazole per day, so if it was an ulcer wouldn't that be helping it?

When my gastritis is bad doc recommends I take 40mg of omeprazole for awhile. Also, I think you should call doctor and tell her/him that you don't think its a muscle strain and see if you can an rx for carafate which is quite helpful soothing stubborn stomach and ulcer pain....assuming that is where your pain is coming from. Meanwhile, try small meals set throughout the day so that you are not either too full or too hungry.
Hope you feel better soon

I'm not even sure what it is any more. Maybe it is muscle strain or inflammation I my ribs. Right now my ribs are really hurting me, it's the entire right side rib area . I've been in constant pain for 3 days straight. Should I try Tylenol?

Oh, I think Tylenol would be good to try. Have you tried holding a heating pad on it? Maybe a little gentle stretching and/ or light self massage. Is there a tender area that might give you a clue as to where the pain is coming from?

The combination meds to treat the H Pylori are pretty strong. They gave me a terrible burning feel and a metal taste in my mouth.
Luckily all these feelings went off as soon as the meds finished.

Are they really still giving PPIs to people with h pylori. That prilosec is doing you absolutely no favors.
Ugh.
While your genius medical doctors figure this out, try mastic Gum order the jarrow brand off amazon and please try to stop taking the PPI or you are just perpetuating a cycle. I cant believe they killed your gut flora off and now have you just on a PPI so the hpylori can just regrow rapidly.
