I don't think it is a complete waste of time. A few months ago I would have answered this question differently. Recently I came down with Interigo (already had UC). Interigo is a red skin irritation which can develop on various parts of the body, including the anal area. My dermatologist prescribed a very expensive steroid ointment (not Proctozone) and I swear since using it my UC has gotten much better. I would have never believed that. Having said that, I wouldn't expect any miracles from the Proctozone cream, although it could help a little. Did I read that right that "my pharmacist decided to give me proctozone cream"? Have you looked at your insurance company's formulary yourself? You may need to bring a list of UC meds that your formulary covers and show it to your doctor's office. Sometimes they just throw in the towel because they don't know what's covered and what isn't. You may have to take a more active roll in getting something better prescribed.
