How long should it take for Canasa to work?

hi all,
i have about 12 days left of my month supply of Canasa. I have seen about a 25% improvement, down from major flare but not near normal. being treated for proctitis.

is this about on course? i am much better but i was hoping for an end to things? wondering if i should notify doctor or wait till end of 30 days.

What other things are you doing? There is no cure for UC so you can't really depend on anything to put you into remission. You may continue getting better and you may not. It's all a roll of the dice. There's only one way to find out. I took Canasa for months and even though it did improve my condition it never put me into remission, even while taking other meds.

there's only one way to find out? what's that other than by just doing it? or did i miss something?

ps i am not doing much else other than using ice after a bm and sitting on ice which helps.

Not missing anything. That was it. Mad Martha is right. Even though you might not get any better by continuing the Canasa (then again, you might) it is surely a recipe for disaster if you stop after 30 days. Haven't read your posting history but you pretty much are making a mistake by letting Canasa put you into remission and then you stop. Future flares often get harder and harder to treat so you need to do some kind of treatment for the rest of your life in order to prevent another flare, even if it is only taking your Canasa once per week. You may have to add additional meds to get your proctitus cleared up.

Are you only using it once a day? If so you could do one in the am and one in the pm. You will need to get more of them obviously. You are seeing an improvement that is good. Proctitis is very hard to treat. I only have 2 cm of inflammation according to my last scope. I take Lialda (oral med) and Canasa. I do the Canasa every other day or so now though since I don't have symptoms.

Proctitis takes awhile to go into remission. It's super stubborn. I've done canasa twice per day or canasa in the a.m. and cortifoam in the p.m. when in a full on flare.

Canasa has been a godsend to me. I think it took a while to finally kick in, so do NOT stop it under any circumstances....even in remission I take it 24/7/365 because once it starts again..it's hard to get under control!

Under bad circumstance, it may take 4-8 weeks to completely see the effects, so keep at it.

another ? ... it's been almost a month. should i schedule another visit? i don't recall what the followup instructions were. i do have two refills.

I agree using Canasa twice a day helped get me feeling better quicker than just using it at night. Proctitis for me is often worse than the UC. I have my old Sitz bath basin ( saved from the birth of my son who is 22 ..lol) you put on the toilet and I alternate warm soaks with ice water soaks and it has helped a lot. I was so sore that inserting a suppository was horribly pain full and this made it more comfortable. Hope you feel better soon.
