I told my GI today that I've developed a new symptom, my teeth are REALLY sensitive to cold and they are getting more sensitive each day. Just the air being sucked in is painful. GI has never heard of that as a symptom of UC or prednisone or other UC meds. Anyone else experience this?

prednisone side effect - sensitive teeth. the drug is brutal. try sensodyne toothpaste, it won't help throughout the day but it will at least be easy on your teeth when you feel the cold is affecting them. so it's not just for cleaning. try it out. i use sensodyne and I'm on 35mg prednisone.

I second the sensodyne toothpaste. I also want to urge you to take calcium & vitamin D because I think it's a sign of your teeth and bones loosing its minerals. Act now. I got osteoporosis because of all the years of pred use and it started with sensitive teeth.

I had it the last time that I used Predisone. It went away after the Predisone was tapered

interesting.. I had this last year for a while... never connected that it could be related... think steroids were out of my system by then.. but perhaps an after effect.. ?
Happy to say it seems to have went away... I did use sensodyne for a month or two..

I had this issue and it coincided with low vitamin D levels. It went away when my levels improved.

There are way too many studies linking low D levels to poor dental health and periodontal disease, so it was a no brainer for me to start supplementing (along with vitamin k2).

It's the pred. I've had this happen both times I was on pred. Pred messes with hormones and anytime hormone levels change it can cause tooth and gum sensitivity. I agree with the sensodyne toothpaste. It really helps.

Thanks for all the replies. That just confirms that I really need to taper off this pred.
My teeth are moving too and my old retainer doesn't seem to help put them back in place.
Eye sight it also getting bad.

I'll start taking the vitamin d today. It's hard getting off the pred when the Delzicol doesn't seem to be helping at all.

Pred is bad for teeth and bones for sure. I also always get sensitive teeth when I use whitening strips. Have you used them recently?

no I haven't used the strips in years. When I did, they did make me sensitive but not THIS bad.
I've always had very healthy teeth, now I'm losing that too! yikes!

Sensitive teeth and poor vision were my two biggest side effects of pred, along with an unbelievable appetite!

Yeah, I'm hungry a lot too. buytrate seems to help with that, a little bit.
Did your eye sight get better after you quit the pred? That's my biggest worry, i think.

Yes it did, but it took a month or two. Hope you can get off the pred soon. It is evil!
