What helps the pain?!

Hi,
I was diagnosed about 5 weeks ago and was having symptoms 2 months prior. My main symptoms were frequency with D and some blood. Well, I have since been diagnosed with pneumonia, and am taking an antibiotic. I was doing well with the UC, well better like 3-5 BM's per day and no blood. Now after 7 days of the antibiotic I am worse than ever. I was so happy I didn't have pain with my flare, but unfortunately for the last 2 days I have a lot of pain. It can be quite disabling and this is the first I have experienced this part of the disease. What can you do for the pain? My GI wants to wait until I'm off the antibiotics for a bit to see if my symptoms improve before trying more aggressive drugs, which I am fine with, but the pain is very bad!

So why did they put ya on antibiotics?

What helps me with the pain is a tube sock filled with uncooked rice that I heat in the microwave until it's good and warm. It functions like a heating pad. It's better, though, because it molds around my body better and is wonderful to lean on when laying on my side. I sometimes press it into my tummy during a bm. The moist heat is helpful. I also use it on my back and knees when the inflammation hits me there.

My GI tells me an occasional Tylenol is okay. I try to avoid pain relievers because of the strain on my liver with my current drugs, though.

Edited to add, it's also great to sit on when my lower parts are angry.

I wouldn't take levaqiun unless I'm dying. Look up the adverse effect profile and get back to your GP. It's one of those drugs that cause structural damage to the body by deteriorating the bone and tendon matrix. I hope you were not on prednisone at the same time.

Neuropathy is a common side effect of the drug, but largely ignored by the medical profession.
