Asacol HD treatment period? 4 to 6 weeks?

I know 5asa's are typically used as maintenance drugs and you shouldn't stop them when you are feeling better, but I have a question... Why do the instructions from asacol hd tell you to use it for only 4 to 6 weeks? I have heard before that the drug was only studied for that time period and that's the only reason. Shouldn't it have instructions for the period after 4 to six weeks. I have been on the full dose for a year already.

I am sure 4-6 weeks is the time period in which positive improvement from the medication would be noticed; it either works or doesn't for a patient. A long term study of any medication is often a year lol. I am sure they studied it for that long. Any GI would monitor and give instructions both initially and for maintenance dosing.
