OOOPS.....Simponi DID work....!

So, I started Simponi 4 months ago, and it's been up and down as some of you have read. Diarrhea, stomach aches, on and off, Had to start Uceris, then Rowasa, on and off, etc. All this time, I have suspected that it has been overlaid with IBS, and so has my doctor. Overall however, I have gotten better, 85% or so, but not as good as I had hoped for biologics.

Last Monday we spoke at length about switching to Remicade, and he wanted to do a short flexible scope this morning to see what was up before we made a decision on this all. Both of us expected a lot better results. I am overall better, but with the rampant diarrhea and still frequency (not urgency or blood) it was still suspect that I wasn't getting better at the pace he wanted me to after all the years I have had the disease.

Well, shut the front door!!

My scope this morning revealed a completely clear rectum and sigmoid, and just a few MINOR spots of inflammation in the left side of my colon that he said he would BARELY classify as a mild colitis if he had to...welcome to IBS!!!!!

I would surely rather have that and take Imodium and figure this out than have UC and worry that the Simponi didn't work...so it obviously did it's job in 4 months for the most part. I can now stop the Rowasa and Uceris he said, and he wants a full colonoscopy at the end of the year just to make sure....

Now I just have to get the IBS calmed down ( I already know the triggers and it's getting better), and all the pressure taken care of, and I know where to start at least.....

Simponi...it worked for me, and I have my life back!

I am glad to hear you are doing better.

But how can you tell it wasn't the uceris or rowasa? Both address the rectal side of the disease more than simponi does. Personally, I think uceris is more efficacious than simponi. It's like prednisone, except without the terrible side-effect profile. Sorry, I'm just not sold on simponi yet. Many of the studies appear to be done in a similar fashion, where it's hard to tell what is doing what.

Your sig also says you are on lialda and canasa as well. That's heck lot to control for.

I was using Uceris and Rowasa for months with little success before the Simponi, so it was the Simponi that has done this dramatic change over 4 months that was seen this morning. He now wants me off the Rowasa and Uceris.

The Lialda and Canasa have been in me for years regardless, and have done nothing for me as of late apparently, and I have been kept on them for the studies that show reduction in inflammation, therefore cancer activity.

Simponi addresses all areas of UC, regardless of the area of the colon.

Simponi or what you think Simponi is doesn't work.

Simponi mixture is just saline water with sugar and artificial coloring. When you shoot yourself with that, you start believing that you are getting medication when it fact it's just your mind that conditions the body to start healing. It's a placebo effect.

Glad to see you hop back on the "Simponi is awesome" wagon! :D

It seemed to help so much but then things went downhill and I was sad.
I have high hopes for Simponi in the UC world :)

I wish I had more time to try other things, Simponi would have been it. But I'm glad to get my colon on. I can promise you it wont look pretty like yours! lol

Let us know how controlling IBS goes and if your symptoms ease up!

Wahoo... dare we say... remission!? :D

So awesome to hear that Simponi beat down the inflammation. Bummer about the IBS. That's a battle too. Did your GI recommend anything for dealing with the ibs? Curious to see how this goes. So hard to know whats ibs and whats ibd.
