I too suffer from horrible, debilitating pain due to my UC. Doctor can't get my flares under control. The frustration of being told to suck it up and suffer through the pain, being treated like an addict or being moralized to about the drug "epidemic" is awful and humiliating.
My doc actually told me "you don't sound that bad", because I'm not bleeding badly and going less than 10 times per day. They can't seem understand the white knuckle, cry out to God pain that can come from just a few centimeters of inflammation at the end of your colon every time you run to the bathroom, and then the hours of demoralizing aching that resides after.
Of course, there are concerns with taking narcotic pain medication, but if you are suffering and can be monitored by a doctor I find it completely unreasonable that these medications are unavailable or locked away behind the puritanical pen of a moralizing doctor simply because of the war on drugs mentality.
I've found there is a useful herbal option for pain relief called kratom, which can be purchased easily online. It acts similarly to a mild opiate pain medication, but is a legal and seemingly safe substance. Do your research, but it can definitely be of help to those with unresolved UC pain.
Completely agree. I feel like they treat me like an addict and it sucks that because some people abuse then, people like us who are in severe pain, cannot get relief.
