Ive been in your shoes. You could try to find the minimum amount of cigarettes required to stay med and symptom free. That could be as little as 2 full cigs a day. Or you could roll your own but roll each cigarette only 1\4 of tobacco and trim the remainder of the paper, and have 4-8 of these "mini-cigs) a day, which of course is the equivalent of 1-2 full cigs.
Those "dosages" may not be enough to reverse a flare, but in my case they were enough to prevent flares.
If it takes more cigarettes then that, then its not worth it, you'd be risking damage to your lungs, and would be better off taking prescribed UC meds.
Keep in mind, you can live without your colon but not without your lungs. Likewise, the prognosis for colon cancer is typically much better than lung cancer.
I was lucky that with major diet modification I was able to stop smoking altogether and I don't use meds.
