Just curious how many on this site are outside of the States, in Canada?

Quite a few, including Quincy, pb4, Sibby, Tournevice, Somedude, Serenity Now, Chantrelle99, Paul L ... and we always look forward to updates from them. / Old Hat (33 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Lots of people here, Canada has higher rates of Inflammatory bowl disease than any other country in the world. In fact, about 1 in 200 people here have either Chrons or UC, and prevalence rates are continuing to rise.

In fact, we have the highest rates of most autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.

It may because our climate discourages bacterial activity and creates sterile environments during childhood, our immune systems don't become properly primed during that crucial developmental period, which causes it to go haywire easier later in life.

Alberta here...I've often heard that AB is the hotbed for IBD, then once about 8 or so yrs ago I heard that Nova Scotia became the hotbed province in Canada for IBD...regardless, it sucks to be Canadian if it means your chances of developing IBD is higher than anywhere else in the world.

Just curious when reading through the forums. I am in Victoria. Been dealing with UC for 15 years. Diagnosed when I was 12. Went into remission at 17 when I started smoking, only had flare ups during pregnancy when I quit. I quit smoking recently and am dealing with a horrible flare. I've been searching for alternative treatment since I am not interested in prescription medications and would rather start smoking again.

My specialist is now retiring, and I had a hard enough time seeing him when he was working. Generally he had no idea who I was which is why I turned to self treatment for the most part.

Ottawa, Ont but grew up in Northeastern BC and was diagnosed in northern Alberta......anyone read the stories about the oil sands and Fort Chipewyan???? That's where I got sick and diagnosed with Crohn's.
