Has 40 mg pred worked for you before Joey?
Might be the pred... but if it holds you over while Entyvio gets a chance to worm... well then, Yahoo! :)
Good luck everyone trying the new med out!

Dose #2 infused Thursday. Easy and quick. Not as much fatigue this time. Feeling better. 3 good days in a row! Good defined as down to 6-8 BM's, still some blood and mucus. Down in urgency and frequency. Remember she was in pretty bad shape. Still on 10 mgs of pred, but feeling like that the light at the end of the tunnel is not an incoming train, for once. 3rd dose not scheduled until August 7th. We should start seeing improvements soon.

Same for me as Kat... I've tapered down to 10mg and I feel like I'm improving. My bms are more solid (completely liquid before), I've slept through the night 3 days in a row which is amazing. Don't want to get too happy yet, still could be the pred, but I do feel better. Big problem for me is gas now.... That might be a good sign. Does your daughter have more gas now Kat?
Had my 2nd infusion yesterday and 3rd will be Aug 11th.

Very encouraging! Keep up the great healing!
My paperwork is being submitted to my insurance company. I'm hopeful I'll be on the Entyvio train soon.

Love the updates.
Each day has been getting better. I've been waking up, having a small, solid BM in morning, sometimes two... Then nothing the rest of the day. No blood. No D. Still on 40mg pred. Ready for infusion #2 on Tuesday. So confident, booked a hotel room at Hard Rock in Biloxi for tues and wed night. It's been a long 4 months and my wife deserves a couple of nights to relax... So we are going for it.
Had my first small setback this evening, cramped up and had urgency immediately after eating dinner, but it passed in about
30 mins and feeling good again.
Best of luck to those who have started Entyvio, and to those of you about
to try it.

Thank you to everyone posting updates about
Enyvio! It gives me hope that if need be, I can maybe still have success after Remicade.

Joey: I'm not on entyvio but just wanted to say that I'm doing pretty darn good and once in a while I cramp up, feel urgency for a while, and then it just goes away. Unfortunately when it strikes it sure doesn't feel like it is going away so you never really know for sure until after the fact. Sure beats the old days though.

Last night, cramped up. Didn't sleep at all, tossed and turned all night.
Very tired today, and only had a small BM this morning. Much less than each day this past week. I've felt very sluggish, I'm sure it's a combination of lack of sleep and feeling full and bloated. Was able to eat a small lunch and a decent dinner, but still so full and bloated. Just wish I could have a good blowout or a a good BM. Just makes me nervous bc this flare resulted in so much inflammation it caused a blockage, and I don't want things to get blocked again. Just mentally need to see as much come out as going in.
Hopefully it was just what I ate the last couple of days, and then with the infusion Tuesday things will
open up again.
Wish me luck

My daughter's note to me today was interesting.
Yes on the gas question-more. It gave her pause, as it is usually the first symptom of worsening, but she followed with " I am definitely getting better". Yesterday 6 bms but at 8 already today at 1pm. No stand alone blood," huge improvement with the blood" and less pain by a lot.
"Progress not as straight uphill as it felt with Remi, but definitely on an uphill trajectory"
I will take it, says the mom....

One more thing, some lightheaded-ness/hot flash/ shakey moments helped by sugar intake. Lots of food being consumed due to the pred- worried about
blood sugar issues. Only on 10mgs tho, seems strange. Random?

Same here Kat, I feel like I'm trending upwards, feel good a lot of days and suddenly one day take a big hit and double the BMs for no apparent reason (and really smacks up my confidence)....and back to the new "normal" upward trend the next day. I feel pretty good overall, I'm being very cautious about
getting too optimistic because I'm afraid of being let down. Once I'm completely off the steroids (next few days, maybe a week max), and a few weeks later if I'm still improving I'll get happy.
I talked to my doc about
the gas, he said it could be a good sign that the colon is healing - since I'm going less often in general and the colon is still damaged it's still creating more gas, so I end up feeling more gassy (usually it's just at night for me though and sometimes in the morning).
BTW Kat, if you don't mind me asking which doc does your daughter go to? There was a girl at the docs on both days I was there starting Entyvio at the same time - and he said she seems to be improving at the same exact rate as me....she's down to 10mg also. Just wondering if the world is really that small. :)

Interesting coincidence. She is in DC till beginning of Aug doing an internship, coming home to Chi-town for infusion #3, then returning for law school back in DC. Has had 2 groups there already. Georgetown couldn't get the drug quickly (tho she liked her doc) and she moved to a big practice that was in the trials in Chevy Chase. Liked him too and loved the efficiency of the practice. Spent a few years in hell in Miami, so efficiency is valued. Chicago is home, and we love our UC doc at U of Chgo- truly a gift to the world. I'll fly her anywhere he is- Dr. Rubin.

Katmom, how did the dr re introduce the Remicade when your daughter tried it a second time, and how long did she try to use it again?
Did she have good success the 1st time on it?
Thanks

Hi rey
Had three 1/2 years of remission with Remicade. She was in the pediatric drug trial to get Remi approved for UC, and dose was adjusted several times.Stayed with 6mp for most of that time. Reduced the Remi to almost standard dosing, and eliminated the 6mp due to multiple serious infections. Might have brought the trough levels too low, 'cause just when we were gonna stop the Remi, it stopped working. Full flare stopped with Tacro, but side effects also crummy. Landed in hospital, again...60 mgs of the dreaded Pred. That's when reintroduction was tried. 10mgs per kilo, 3 regular loading doses, plus 2 extra within 6 weeks. Symptoms returned as the pred decreased. Levels were tested and were higher than the chart went- the last dose gave her a body rash that took 6 weeks to diminish. Probably has antibodies now, but didn't before. Remi didn't work at all, and docs considered it a failed mechanism. No other biologics attempted till now.

Had #2 today, went well. No issues until tonight dealing with leg cramps. Charlie horses in both legs, from shin to toes. Have to keep standing up and stretching, and hopping in warm bath. But stomach is feeling good, fatigue not as bad. No headache or other issues.
Went to doctor as well, he is tapering me off pred, down to 20 from 40 for the next 10 days. Adding a probiotic (flora star?). Hoping to keep things in the right direction, or even keep them the same as they are now. I feel so much better and can function again.
I'll update with any other news, and looking forward to hearing how others are doing on this.

Thanks Katmom. My daughter is having a very slow reininduction, 1/2 dose with 4 weeks in between next dose..I can't wait for Friday to get here. Missed the opportunity for the Vedolizumab because she couldn't wait for the paper work.. I hope the Remicade works last time she responded right away, not this time.
Thanks for the Entyvio update,,I'm watching how people are doing, if the Remicade doesn't work this should be our next choice.

Joey: The leg cramps are probably due to prednisone because it depletes your potassium levels. Eating a banana a day should help with that. It's possible that the infusion worked in conjunction with the prednisone but prednisone all by itself is famous for that.

Joey, you can also try coconut water. I get horrific leg and foot cramps, and about
15 minutes after I drink the water the cramps go away. On airline trips, I drink Smart Water during the flight -- and it does help battle the cramps. They are so awful, aren't they?

Friends, I have a problem. I will start Entyvio soon but my GI doctor isn't sure about
adding an immunosuppressive(like 6mp, imuran or mtx) to prevent antibodies against Entviyo. He says he is searching info but can't get sure about
this topic. He is also talking with other doctors about
it. Would you tell me, If you are using entyvio or will use entyvio, will you use it with an immunosuppressant (combination therapy) or will you use it alone?(or are you using it alone?)
Thank you very much.

Wasn't this already brought up in this same thread? The answer is no, you do not need an immunosuppressant.

Entyvio is gut specific, not systemic such as Remicade, and some other biologics. Many doctors like to use AZA or 6MP to help the body to not create systemic antibodies to the systemic biologic drug, rendering the drug useless. Since Entyvio is not systemic the immunosuppressants are not necessary. I know this drug is new for doctors but it is your doctor who should be asking the Entyvio people this question, not expecting you to provide the evidence from someone on the Healing Well Website Forum.
