I had hemmies A lot Prior but not since being diagnosed.. They were large external ones which went away on their own.. I believe I got them from pregnancy.. I never suffered constipation and always had perfect bowel movements.. I always thought I'd be fine in the area as I'd be in and out of the toilet as fast as I'd do a wee... Never an issue doing number two's..just Pryor to my diagnosis I'd eaten a bag of sugar free lollies which left me with severe bloating and cramps.. A few weeks later I done that again.. Same outcome. Prior to that I'd quit smoking,prior to that I spent 18 months on roaccutane. So I guess I could blame any of those thing, and I do.. I don't believe mine is auto immune..

I think technically they are supposed to be secondary - like stress due to straining or pregnancy and so on... But so are fissures and fistula's.

I do know that if you swab a fistula they are full of bacteria (like certain fragilis, staph and and ecoli type strains) and there's another on going argument: is the fistula a results of inflammation and are certain bacteria thriving in the conditions, or does the actual fistula develop to try and rid the body of the bacterial infection?

Maybe there's a similar argument in regards to hemorrhoids. Maybe someone should poke around and see if any hemorrhoid sufferers have seen relief from antibiotics or something.

With regards to AMPs, the research doc's are messing where they should not.

The possibility of overuse of AMPs or synthetic AMPs given to people to fight infection,might lead to

resistance to develop like antibiotic resistance.  Where the bug is now resistant to your own immune defense.

IMO - Not mechanical at all. Instead has to do with :

  • Faster transit time
  • Digestive chemicals and/or very high acidicity
  • Burns the rectum
  • Rectum is vulnerable do to the thinning of mucosal layer back toward regular skin


Its burning along the way but mucosal layer is thick and not noticed until it thins out. I always get 'the burns' before the flare begins.

Last time I got the burns right before heading down here to San Diego. Last week I spent 10 hours per day in conference room seated side by side with client team members and no way I could have symptoms so I pulled chobani from diet and upped the psyllium and 'the burn' went away in 2 days just in time for trip.

I had really hard stool all my life. I was diagnosed with hemmies on my colonoscopy but 99 percent I had them prior to my UC that was diagnosed on that colonoscopy. What I believe is that our immune system is trying to destroy one of good bacteria in our gut. Only the location of that bacteria is difference between chrohns and UC
I believe that there are as many types of UC as many sorts of good bacteria you have in your colon.
Because of that some people are good with some food and others cant tolerate that food at all. The same is with meds also. Some people respond great to meds others to some other.
I will say something that I think is total opossite to UC I know girl that had echerichia coli problem it is interesting how uor immune system is attacking bacteria that is not normaly located.

The current proctitis thead got me thinking again on this.
Yes UC spreads from the distal end to the proximal end of the colon in some people.
So in those where at least it does not spread.
How can this type of UC be autoimmune.
If autoimmune then you might think the whole organ would get involved,but in many cases it does not.
Or why right next to ulcers the tissue can be none inflamed.
Seems the immune system is going after something,which I have to suspect is bacteria normal ones or virulent ones.
Due to some form of mucus/mucosl breach.
Where perhaps the immune system cannot clear the infection.
Have to reread the 10000 biopsy paper again,might remember
not too many bacteria in the ulcers,but belive they are denuded of mucus.

Just came out seems H Pylori homes in on injury sites.

So what other bacteria in our rectums might do this.

Seems I am out of control,going in many directions today.

I love searches for the answer to the question WHY!??

A few snippets of history:

I used to get strep throat twice a year for about 5 or six years and antibiotics every time.
I had hemmorhoids once in 2002 - it was very bad and never stopped having blood on my toilet paper ever since
No cuts or abrasions to my colon otherwise
Had an inguinal hernia repair 6 years ago
Have had an autoimmune disorder for likely 14 years that had a progression like this: eczema, thyroid issues - thyroid radiated but not before causing atrial flutter that had to have electrical ablasion to stop, gluten intolerance (possibly celiac) that caused osteoporosis which led to me breaking a rib (for ten long months i was on naproxen, ibuprofen, lyrica, and T3's), other food allergies, then UC in left side colon.

These are the things that I think led me to UC.

Chronic antibiotic use (sinus infections) including many for Levaquin
Vit D deficiency
Heavy NSAID use
Rx for topical Clindamycin for acne caused my first UC symptoms
Long term Prilosec, then Nexium use
Smoking/Quitting smoking
Methylation defects
Other AI disease (celiac and Hashimoto's thyroiditis)
STRESS

As far as I remember, never had a fissure or hemmie prior to developing UC.

Well all the antibiotics, NSAIDS, and quitting smoking are triggers
for many people. PPI's perhaps are a maybe.

I was historically constipated before this all began many years ago, gradually worsening to the opposite. I would often have to strain to go, especially after being severely dehydrated. Got some bad hemmies, a some internal as confirmed by a proc. So, theory works to an extent for me.

This is a great thread! It got me thinking. What do you all think of taking those over the counter anti-microbial ointment gel types of things and injecting them into the rectum using an applicator? Maybe it can kill a lot of the bacteria in there and help make the other treatments more effective?

For me the rectum and sigmoid have had so much issues and so unable to heal its hells. My other parts of the colon are doing well thanks to my treatments but rectum and sigmoid not so much.
