krissy some advice for you.......loved one had this four years..nothing really worked until we looked at the eating or diet side of things.....progressive reduction of all rubbish foods began the change .... we looked at uc in a very different way...before uc the gut system functioned perfectly processing out millions of bugs germs parasites and nasties that come down it everyday but then suddenly uc ....we opined that first comes the unstable and unhealthy gut then comes the uc...we guessed that because of the large chemical intake in modern foods and generally what is done to our food in production the gut system begins to falter...aLL THE FINE BALANCAES THAT KEEP A GOOD GUT SYSTEM OPERATING bein tocollapase and instead of processing out the bugs the germs can now breed...thinking this way we were determined to reverse the process and so looked at everything loved one ate...slowly removed all garbage foods from the food chain and the tresponse was immediate...the meds simply did not really work for us but the food way did...got on internet and looked at stacks of uc sites and what people ate ...slowly found all foods thatb worked for loved one...looked for other things that worked for uc people and tried supplements...eventually got ones that worked...so try this if you will....alovera in pill form probiotic vsl 3 or supershield...no glutten foods no wheaton foods no heavy sugaratyed foods no junk foods no take aways...try to cook all foods yourself prepare all foods yourself..plenty of vitamin d from sun plenty of good heathy exercise and more sun
this is so unhelpful
it almost denies the genetic predisposition, and hardly acknowledges that different triggers are responsible for different folks.
Yes the gut microbes are important. Very important. But terms like "rubbish foods" are so imprecise as to be laughable. There are serious discussion to be had about
nutritional components that affect populations of gut microbes, as well as those substances that might promote mucosal healing, or moderate inflammation/symptoms.
"stop eating rubbish foods" is almost useless, although in general highly processed foods aren't such a good diet.
