Thanks for more insight CDN,would not worry about
pigbel but one sweet potato a day might be close
to 365 pounds/year, but suspect they eat even more than that. Sweet potatoes are a staple. Yes you are correct as far as I can tell, the toxin needs to be deactivated by pancreatic trypsin, low protein diets will lower trypsin output from the pancreas,on top of that eating a food high in trypsin inhibitor will allow the toxin to stay activated and cause disease.
I started this past Sunday eating half a one a day, will see what happens, bake at 350 in foil for 1 hour,
remove eat, then into fridge with the others I have baked. So next day eat half of one cold usually in the am. What we have down here are those big fat ones.
Now this is where your extra info gets real interesting, the smelly gas.
Your descript
ion makes me believe you had sulfur farts, this is hydrogen sulfide and other sulfur compounds, which are highly toxic to the colon cells if not deactivated. This is due to SRB's
sulfate reducing bacteria going nuts. In my sons case he had the room clearing sulfur farts also,
resulting in very aggressive UC,after the meds failed he lost his colon. For me I have basically no smell
for many years.
Anyhow I have no idea how sweet potatoes might have reduced the SRB's other than some other bacteria
outgrow them,or the protease inhibitors keep them from digesting dietary or mucus or other body proteins. In other words perhaps you have switched colon fermentation from proteolytic to saccharolytic.
You did not happen to be on a high meat/protein/fat diet prior to UC onset, were you.
Like I said in my older post, anything that can prevent UC returning after quitting smoking is really exhibiting
a powerful effect.
The only change I see at this time is that normally I wont pass stool for 2-3 days then it takes a few hours for a complete colon dump, starting usually solid and progressing to more liquid then a D blowout. Now going everyday, which is good, suspect the extra fiber.
The other thing I am doing is low detergent contact with my body, only use real soap, try to eat foods not containing
any emulsifiers, non fluoride/non detergent toothpaste. Eating more high nitrate/nitrite foods, celery ect.
Oh yea, still smoke, but smoking has not put me into remission since 1986.
Just want to make sure you are actually eating sweet potatoes as opposed to yams, there is a naming
problem in the states. Mine would be the second picture but somewhat fatter.
