I am new to the group. Here's a little background information. I am a 52 yr old female diagnosed with acid reflux 2 months ago tests with ENT confirmed these finding and I was started on Prevacid. I still have some throat burn off and on as I am learning what my triggers are.
Last week after 4 day bout of diarrhea, accompanied with back ache and stomach pain, I too already knew I had a UTI. I presented to the ER and blood work, CT scan they SUSPECT UC. I was sent home from the ER with cipro and flagyl. I haven't followed up with my PCP yet. The ER visit was a week ago yesterday and I finished up the medicine this morning. I STILL have a touch of non bloody diarrhea (usually upon wakening and one or two through the day) but no pain. The ER doctor said it could be viral or bacterial colitis. With no normal BM since before the ER visit am I to assume this is more than the viral "stomach flu" colitis? I searched online about all of this and found this site and I know there is no better resource than the people that are living it. Thanks for reading!

It could be infectious colitis. Only biopsies during a scope can confirm UC based on changes in the shape of cells lining the colon.

Hi, with regards to GERD, I was recently diagnosed with GERD, but I am happy to say I am feeling so much better, incredibly so, due to my chiropractor! Everyone is different of course, but for some people seeing a chiropractor can sometimes help enormously.

GI conditions (mainly GERD and UC) is the area in which I have the most experience. Please tell me, do you have a history of taking NSAIDs such as ibrufen?

I hardly ever take OTC pain meds such as NSAIDSs or ibuprophen. Maybe once a month or less.

The back pain was across my lower back. In my original post this is what was said about BM:

Ohh it too was in my stomach but the back was the worse.

Everything else is ok. No change in posture. The back pain is now gone.

Tom: You really didn't answer my question. What are your credentials? Why should anyone take your advice? There are many people here who have much more than 8 years of GI experience. Some of them have decades on the job. I'm not really sure what you mean by "I prefer to contact the person directly so nothing is hidden". If you discuss it here, it is not hidden. You have set up a medical practice on this website to to treat "GI conditions" and apparently were doing email consultations. This is not a website where you can set up shop and treat patients.

Everyone- Please be watchful of who is giving out advice to you! This forum, is in no ways the same as going to your doctor. Your doctor should be your #1 priority. This site is for advice based on others experience with the disease and support.

Tom- Please, don't be offering this kind of "medical advice" if it's unwarented. We are sick patients and don't need the headache.

After completing the scirpts from the ER and 2 weeks later still with loose stools I went to my PCP doctor on Wednesday. He sent me for xrays (laying and standing) and a collection container for stool to test for C diff. I have access to hospital records online and the stool testing showed negative for C diff. The PCP is in the process of making an appointment to GI doctor for a colonoscopy ASAP. I still am experiencing loose stools but no pain. I go back to my PCP August 12. Hopefully the colonoscopy will help figure out what is going on.

Yes, a c-scope is obviously in order. Please request biopsies. Hope you can get it done soon.

Good to hear negative on c.diff. What else did they check for?

The xray of the abdomen says:
Bowel gas pattern unremarkable. No free air identified. No obstruction present. Spleen mildly prominent, appear to represent prominent Ridels lobe.
Nothing else on the stool tests except negative for c diff.
Still with loose stool but not as frequent has they were and still am not comfortable leaving my home. I HATE this!! Wondering what the next step will be when I go to the doctor August 12. I do hope we get it figured out.

One positive...not too long to wait for the appt.
In the meantime, you could consider taking some probiotics. What I use is in my signature...(just suggestion).

UPDATE: Still clueless............they want more stool.......geesh!! I did forget to ask about the probiotics though. Anyway THIS poop is for Stool O and P x 3 and C and s. Searching I see p=parasites?? And FINALLY they are making an appt to GI doctor........I go back to pcp mid Sept. Should I just ditch that and wait for the appt for the GI dr?? I am so tired of sittin' on the butter dish and delivering it!! LOL The frequency is much better but the urge is STILL there. When I gotta go I gotta go.....oh and every time I pee, I see stool when I wipe.

Finally the results of the 2nd stool test available....it's negative for parasites.
Can I assume that the ER doctor was right in his Dx of UC. Back to the PCP Sept. 16. I may just call because I assume this appointment is to discuss these test results. Thanks to the computer they are available to me.
